The box office has been on a steady downward trend recently; any surprise drops during Mondays are just confirmations of this pattern. Big titles like Shamshera, Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan have suffered too, leaving Liger (Hindi) to be no exception. Clearly, there seems to be no respite in sight as films keep struggling to survive the box office blues.
When the film released on Monday, its collections had already taken a hit and reduced from Friday’s total of Rs. 4.50 crores to Rs. 1.50 crores*. Although that amount may have seemed passable when compared with the other 2023 films which were not able to rake in similar numbers, it still remained only a modest figure overall. Unfortunately, its plight continued as the movie – starring Vijay Devarakonda and Ananya Pandey – saw a further plunge in its earnings and closed at a heartbreaking Rs 15.25 crores*. Its showing looks set to be limited to one week only.
As the box office battle between Karthikeya 2 (Hindi) and other films such as Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan continues, its good stay at theatres looks set to go on for four weeks. Those who invested in the film have enjoyed some fortune so far, with total collections of Rs. 24.08 crores*. While it wasn’t great on Monday, bringing in only Rs. 0.55 crores*, it is a positive sign considering the challenges currently facing those working in exhibition and distribution circles. Nevertheless, they are grateful for any successes that come their way!
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
