After the success of Pushpa last year, another surprise hit is potentially in the making. Karthikeya 2 [Hindi], which had a meager opening of 0.07 crores on Saturday, has seen its box office collection skyrocket to Rs.2.46 crores by Friday – showing remarkable growth even in today’s turbulent climate for films at the box office. It appears this film will continue to rise and make a mark as an unexpected commercial success.
Laal Singh Chaddha, Rakshabandhan, and even Dobaaraa did not perform well in theatres due to the limited release. Fortunately, Karthikeya 2 was presented with ample screen space, providing good exposure for the film. Day by day it gained more traction and quickly surpassed the one crore mark on its third day. Fast forward to today, Karthikeya 2 crossed two crores and is expected to hit three soon followed by four tomorrow if all goes according to plan. It looks like the hard work has paid off!
Taapsee Pannu’s film has earned Rs. 8.21 crores, posing a challenge to Dobaaraa, the latest Hindi release this week. On Friday, it collected Rs 0.72 crores – one third of Karthikeya 2’s seventh-day earnings – outperforming expectations which initially had it earning between 30-50 lakhs. There is still a chance that it could surprise everyone if it continues to expand its base; here’s hoping for the best!
