Amid the current chaos enveloping India’s film industries, be it Bollywood or southern cinema, Karthikeya 2 has become a rare glimmer of hope. While the movie didn’t become an event–film like KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR, nor was it as commercially successful as Pushpa, its modest success was gained solely through audience word–of–mouth; it came out of nowhere to surprise many. Nevertheless, what makes this picture special is that it remains one of the few movies that can claim profitability in these trying times.
With limited reach for its target audience due to sub–par performance across all regions, the movie has earned a total of Rs. 19.25 crores*. Fortunately, there is still some glimmer of hope in the third week with screens being held by the film even amidst the launch of Liger; thus, pushing it close to Rs. 25 crores by this week and potentially having a few more crores before Brahmastra makes its appearance on September 9.
Dobaaraa has turned out to be a complete disappointment at the box office with its total first–week collections only amounting to Rs. 3.85 crores*. From the start, there was no upward trajectory and even weekdays failed to make any significant impact resulting in a resounding ‘flop’ verdict for all involved with it. Though the film is expected to breach the Rs. 4 crores lifetime mark, had it released directly on OTT instead, chances of garnering greater attention would have been much higher due to its digital–friendly content.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
