It had been an average week at theaters for the films in contention. There were three notable Indian releases over the course of a few days – one Hindi, one Bengali and one Kannada film. As expected, it was the English-language Hollywood movie that fared best among them; while its own countrymate trailed behind slightly with enough momentum to push through two weeks’ worth of showings.
This will be the first time I am speaking about Jayeshbhai Jordaar. He is an actor who played in the film which managed to collect only Rs. 17.50 crore* dollars after its first week, which admittedly isn’t all too bad when you compare it to earlier movies he’s been in such as Thugs of Hindostan and Uri: The Surgical Strike. Though it did not see a lot of success at the box office during its single-week run, what really makes me feel sorry for him are his setbacks with Saloni Pandey from Arjun Reddy fame; she waited two whole years just so she could finally make her Bollywood debut alongside him through this social satire movie!
On the contrary, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was able to accumulate an astronomical sum of Rs. 21 crores*, but even that is still a significant percentage drop from its opening weekend worth of Rs. 101.31 crores. If it had been met with acceptance among viewers then surely there would have been an increase in holdovers since it played out on some very popular formats [IMAX, 4DX, 3D], giving it significantly more profit per footfall. But nonetheless the film has made up for this deficit at rs. 122 crore* so far and will hopefully continue to do well into the future.
Meanwhile, KGF: Chapter 2 [Hindi] did hold itself well in Week 5 despite a much lower count of screens and shows. Unlike Pushpa [Hindi], which had a free run for almost 10 weeks, the Yash starrer has been facing competition week after week. With over Rs. 10 crores* more coming in, the film has now collected Rs. 431 crores*. The showings have decreased drastically since Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Dhaakad have taken over the country with an approximate 5000 screen share between them; consequently, there will be a significant decrease felt by the film from Week 6 onwards.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
