It was a great first week for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Rs. 103 crores* came in. This makes it one of the few Hollywood films to have been worth watching and even less common to see this happen during its opening weekend. If you take into consideration just Hindi-language films released domestically, only two other movies are worth watching – The Kashmir Files and Gangubai Kathiawadi. So when one takes this into consideration, we can be hopeful about what will happen next because at least there’s finally something new coming that people might want to watch now!
That said, there is still a small sense of disappointment here. Reason being that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was one film that could have done better. The manner in which it opened and then stayed well right through the weekend, it was racing towards the Rs. 125 crores milestone being crossed in Week One itself. Post that even a mighty drop would have allowed it to conveniently cross the Rs. 150 crores mark; however, things went wrong for the Marvel movie very early in the week as Monday collections went down heavily.
Not only did this happen but there were periods where numbers declined badly throughout each day until Wednesday where they got back up again – just barely making those estimates at about Rs. 115-120 crore mark now instead of crossing over to 130 crore range by now.
As for KGF: Chapter 2 (Hindi) box office numbers, it is staying strong as the fourth week has grossed nearly Rs. 23 crores. It’s exceptional again because no other movie has made this much money in its fourth weekend yet; only two movies, Uri – The Surgical Strike and Baahubali: The Conclusion, have been able to beat this number so far. With a current worldwide gross of 437 crores, this film will easily break through 500 crores before it finishes playing theatrically.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
