In spite of heavy promotion and hype, The Farhad Samji directed film Bachchhan Paandey starring Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Arshad Warsi and Jacqueline Fernandez was lackluster. On its opening day alone, it earned only Rs. 13.25 crore rupees – much lower than the previous release The Kashmir Files made in its first day- which makes for an uphill battle going forward.
In this opening weekend box office report, we took a look at the best collections from recently released films post pandemic period. One of them being, Bachchan Paandey who earns Rs.37.25 cr on its opening day – giving it the fourth-highest opening day figures among Bollywood movies since the deadly contagion hit screens! Whereas unlike earlier releases like ‘The Kashmir Files’ (Rs 869 lakhs) and ‘Pushpa-The Rise'(474 crore), both had earned revenue based solely on ticket sales during their own time – Bachchan managed to overcome other successful productions such as ‘Sooryavanshi’ (6 crores) and ’83’ (2 crores), and now sees itself ranked third among five most successful Indian movies to release in theatres post-pandemics! Even with increased competition against ‘The Kashmir Files’, that remains firmly atop all movie charts today – industry analysts are pessimistic about BoB’s future performance under these conditions.
