The newest film from Sooraj Barjatiya, Uunchai starring Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Anupam Kher was released just over a week ago. It has already seen an increase in audience interest as the days go by – after opening on a strong note, it gained momentum during its first weekend at the box office before being augmented with more showings to meet increasing demand from audiences. This past Friday saw another uptick in revenue for Uunchai which continues to thrive even though it only opened up about two weeks ago; this means that despite other recent releases in theaters or TV premiering earlier than anticipated, Uunchai manages to compete because of sheer public interest.
According to sources, Uunchai will probably collect an additional 1.31 crores at the box office during its second Friday for two reasons: firstly due to the release of 92 more screens across India; and secondly because some are claiming that it is ‘certain’ that it will compete with Ajay Devgn’s latest movie Drishyam 2. It seems as though despite this huge addition in screens, Drishyam 2 might be able to affect the overall collection of Uunchai, but only time will tell whether or not this statement holds true.
As of now, Uunchai has managed to rake in Rs. 18.33 cr. since its release with trade predicting a good jump on its second Saturday and Sunday. Adding to this is the fact that the film has seen a good spate of advance bookings as well for its second weekend in theatres despite being up against stiffer competition from Drishyam 2 at the box office; Rajshri Films expects it to do well in spite of all this given that it’s held pretty steady so far due to some excellent word-of-mouth about its previous two days’ performance.
