In what may be the best product tie-in since the Wonka Bar and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Tequila Avion has transcended beyond product placement into a major plot line in the Seventh Season of HBO’s Entourage. The show’s back story for Tequila Avion is fiction (Turtle isn’t their brand rep and Marc Cuban isn’t on the hunt to buy the company) but the tequila is very real. In the real world, Tequila Avion is based in New York City and run by Ken Austin a former Senior Vice President of Seagram’s who served as Chief Marketing Officer at Marquis Jet before founding his own company.
The idea for the tequila initially came about when Marquis Jet CEO Kenny Dichter met with Tequila Avion partner and childhood friend, Doug Ellin. It only seemed fitting then to name their drink after the time they spent together on Entourage with such strong ties as friends. But what sets this particular drink apart from others is that instead of just branding it under a fancy name or celebrity endorsement, there are signatures of both partners branded all over the bottle: Llegada (the arrival) and Salida (the departure) are etched into both ends while an agave heart takes flight at the bottom of the label.
This purchase has been a long time coming. Over the course of six years, we have seen Pernod Ricard increase its stake in Avión before eventually purchasing them out entirely in January 2018. This has been under discussion for the past 18 months, said Tequila Avión founder Ken Austin when reached out to about this story. He later added that [w]e agreed to do so this past December. Along with Austin and president Jenna Fagnan – as well as other key members on their team – they will all remain with the company until July 2020 at least.
One night we had some friends over and decided to try out a bottle of tequila called Tequila Avion. Normally, this would seem like something normal but it turned out that the drink was actually made up just for us! A moment later, we realize that people from Entourage also loved this drink too! The Nose is really fruity- smelling with hints of banana and pineapple mixed in with some light floral scent. You wouldn’t think this would happen because when you finally taste it all you can feel are these big pinches of spicy pepper making you cry.
But if there’s anything else needed to make things worse then add hot sauce! It turns out after taking those two huge hits at once–all mixed together–things start going crazy around here as your senses go haywire because suddenly everything tastes wrong. And believe me after getting hit by those flavors all at once, they linger on and keep getting stronger until they’re eventually gone…or maybe not so fast.
What Liquor Does Mark Cuban Own?
Mark Cuban owns many establishments in his hometown of Dallas. Besides owning a number of liquor stores, he also has ownership over wine shops and breweries. As if that wasn’t enough, Mark Cuban is the owner of an entertainment venue (nightclub), restaurant, and professional sports teams.
Is Avion Tequila From Entourage Real?
Despite the fact that Turtle’s brand rep is fake (Turtle isn’t the company’s representative), the tequila on the show is very real. Ken Austin, a former Senior Vice President of Seagram’s and the CMO of Marquis Jet, owns and operates Tequila Avion, which is based in New York City. The seventh season of HBO’s Entourage features the character Tequila Avion.
The company, run by Ken Austin, a former Senior Vice President of Seagram’s; who has more than 30 years experience working in marketing for some of America’s largest liquor brands including Jim Beam Bourbon and Absolut Vodka; who currently runs his own successful business-based out of NYC; was named after him because he holds licenses from both Mexico and France to produce his own authentic branded product line called Johnnie Walker Black Label Whiskey too – says he grew up with its creator Doug Ellin as they were friends growing up in Queens.
Kenny Austin And Kenny Dichter: The Men Behind Avion Tequila
Avion Tequila was founded in 2006 by Kenny Austin and Ken Dichter, both aviation enthusiasts. Prior to joining the alcoholic beverage industry, Austin worked as an accountant while Dichter had been employed at Seagram and Gallo Winery. The brand currently has a relationship with Jeezy, who joined them in 2013. Their luxury and experimental tequilas are well-known for their delicious flavor profiles.
Do Jeezy Own Avion?
There is no definitive answer to this question since the financial details of Jeezy’s business ventures are not public information. However, it is known that he has a minority stake in the luxury tequila brand Avion so it would be plausible for him to own an ownership percentage of the company.
Jeezy Sells Stake In Tequila Avion To Pernod Ricard
If you work hard enough, anything is possible. For example, Jeezy recently sold his stake in Tequila Avion to Pernod Ricard, who owns other famous alcohol brands such as Jameson Irish Whiskey and Absolut Vodka. He has also been investing more time in his own clothing line that he plans to release soon, along with partnering up with Ken Austin from the start of Avion Tequila – which won first place three times at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its quality product.
Kenny Dichter is an aviation entrepreneur who founded his company alongside Ken Austin – the founder of tequila Avion. With a long track record of success from his past experience at touring and being in positions of power, Jeezy was able to bring that into his music. His lyrical content reflects what it means to work for something with every struggle leading up until getting where you want to go; which anyone can relate too because we all know exactly how it feels when we work hard for something.
Tequila Avion
In 2009, a luxury tequila brand known as Avión was created by Ken Austin. As the CEO of Avion Spirits, he wanted to create a luxurious high-end product that people would love drinking. Using his experience and understanding of what consumers want in their liquor, he developed a line of premium spirits called Tequila Avion – with silver, reposado, and anejo varieties being offered. This line won over countless awards from prestigious competitions such as Best Tasting Tequila at the San Fran World Spirits Competition – but it didn’t stop there!
Avion Silver Tequila first became popular when it appeared in the scene of HBO’s Entourage Series in 2009. It has a complex flavor with hints of smokiness that are prevalent and robust enough to stand out yet subtle enough for someone who doesn’t like strong tasting liquor. With its beautifully rich amber hue, this tequila is absolutely perfect for mixing up high quality cocktails and shots alike! Avion Silver’s crisp taste makes it one of the best mixers on the market – but don’t forget about its versatility because even if it had been mixed or blended before there are plenty more options left! What really sets Avion Silver apart from other blancos though is that they use traditional clay ovens rather than steel or ceramic ones which helps produce their uniquely rich flavor!
Avin Tequila has established a new standard of high quality and flavor for small batches of ultra premium tequila. Don Julio, the son of one of the world’s most renowned tequila makers, created the brand. Avi*n has a smooth, savory taste that is rich and full bodied with an incredible aroma – It will never leave you disappointed no matter what you do with it! With so many flavors coming out after each sip, this drink will become your go-to without fail if you want to make yourself happy; simply pour some over ice or mix it with some soda water!
The Best Tequila For Sipping And Mixing
Avion’s tequila is of the highest quality and makes an excellent drink on its own or in a variety of unique cocktails. It provides a very smooth, authentic taste that appeals to connoisseurs of high-quality liquor everywhere.
Austin Sell Avion Tequila
In 2006, John Martin founded Avion Tequila with just six hand blown bottles. Today he sells over 100,000 cases every year. The key to this company’s success is how they never forget about quality and sourcing their ingredients from the finest blue agave plants out of Jalisco, Mexico – ones that are cooked slowly in a brick oven before being distilled in small batches.
This creates a smooth tasting tequila full of flavor without any harsh aftertaste – making it unique among other brands on the market. If you’re looking for something to sip while feeling alone or having some friends over – Avion has something for everyone!
Jeezy And Ken Austin Sell Stake In Avion Tequila To Pernod Ricard
Numerous people have had a stake in Avion Tequila over the years, but Jeezy and Ken Austin are now selling theirs to Pernod Ricard. Jeezy has been supportive of this brand for some time now, believing that it has immense potential. By making these changes, Avion will be able to reach greater heights than ever before; expanding outwards and reaching more consumers.
KEN AUSTIN OWNER OF AVION TEQUILA
In 2010, Ken Austin created Avion Tequila and released it in New York City and California. It wasn’t long before people caught sight of its familiar appearance on HBO’s Entourage which gave this brand instant notoriety – positioning it for popularity years later. What was initially marketed as being simply about mixing up the smoothest tequilas known to man quickly transformed into something bigger than business; one of complete fulfillment. With each bottle being made just for those who dared to take life head-on and face every obstacle it threw at them headfirst with a large grin plastered across their face from ear to ear.
Types of Tequila Avión
AVION SILVER TEQUILA
For about $40, this is an unaged and pure white tequila. It has a high amount of natural sugars for its lack of ageing – which makes it an excellent candidate for mixing. The Avion Silver spirit is made from the finest hand-selected blue weber agaves grown in the highest region of Jalisco, Mexico; where the soil provides many minerals that alter the taste to make it uniquely different from other tequilas with more sugar content.
Tasting Notes
Nose – An intense sweetness of ripe agave which was also complemented well with some fresh mint leaves, lime juice, buttery citrus notes and light fruity flavours (grapefruit and pineapple). It has just the right amount of peppery warmth from its other ingredients before finishing off nicely balanced with a hint of smokiness.
Taste – TTry using lighter oils such as olive oil or canola, unsalted butter, cooked and sweet agave nectar, black pepper, citrus zest, fruitier mint flavours along with hints of fennel and licorice for an aromatic touch. On the palate it is crisp yet silky – but never heavy or greasy; pleasantly light without sacrificing its delicate flavors. Soft floral notes make this blend very approachable while leaving a subtle warmth lingering behind.
Finish – Sweet taste of agave, orange and black peppercorns with a mild alcohol flavor. An everlasting buttery aftertaste finishes this drink off nicely.
AVION REPOSADO TEQUILA
In one respect, this tequila smells expensive at $44.99 because it has been aged six months with no artificial coloring added to it – though the color is faint and much lighter than other brands of tequila. But, it doesn’t stop there; its flavor is also delicate and rich with notes of roasted agave, oak barrel flavors including hints of cherries and spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, depending on how you prefer it served. What makes this so worth every penny you spend? A refined balance that leaves an excellent taste in your mouth!
Tasting Notes
Nose – Light Oak, Caramel, Vanilla notes blend together with a hint of Alcohol. Roasted Sweet Agave, Drink Flavours are evident too along with Flowers and Smoke. There is Black Pepper and Spice to round out the profile while hints of Cherry and Fruit add sweetness.
Taste – A light caramel flavoring combined with scents of vanilla, floral hints and a touch of cherry brings about the mellow yet strong taste of Avion. With only a hint of alcohol at the end – this drink is perfect for those who are looking for something to refresh them without making them drunk or tired.
Finish – This bourbon has a relatively sweet taste; with hints of oak, a faint numbing sensation and mild caramel flavour.
AVIÓN AÑEJO TEQUILA
Approximately $47.90, aging takes place for a whopping 2 years with a sweet and ripe smell of agave, vanilla, caramel cherry, and fruity aromas. This Añejo is well-balanced but also rather prosperous – smelling of whiskey/oak, some smoke (in moderation), and spice. The nose is divine here; while it holds so much luscious sweetness from the ample agave notes found throughout this bottle it tastes good but not excessively so. This tasty Añejo Tequila should be enjoyed neat or over ice to fully savor its flavor.
Tasting Notes
Nose – The nose offers a gentle yet rich spice of oak and sweet caramel, accompanied by warm vanilla. It smells of things like sugar-roasted agaves, hinting at a slight aftertaste of alcohol from the fermentation process – also showing hints of clover or wildflowers.
Taste – This wine has a soft aroma of cherry, flowers, and oak. It carries hints of an almost hidden alcoholic taste. The wine is sweet but not too much so that you would know it was there.
Finish – Medium-bodied sweetness, light oaky flavor, pleasant numbness, and smooth caramel aftertaste.
Avión Reserva 44 Extra Añejo Tequila
Avion Blanco (silver) Reserve 44 is aged in old oak barrels for 43 months before it gets an additional 30 days of aging from small oak barrels. A total of 44 months is spent perfecting this masterpiece. This gem isn’t sweet like other bourbons; instead it offers a delightful balance between tart and tangy fruity flavors such as cherry, honey, fruits, chocolate, etc. With its one-of-a-kind package design and hand numbered glass bottles that are individually signed by the company’s founder and president – this bourbon becomes something worth bragging about.
Tasting Notes
Nose – Cognac/whiskey oak aroma with notes of butter, cherries, fruit and caramel. Mild cinnamon flavor accompanies flavors of sweet agave, spices, and honey. The finish has soft vanilla, cream/caramel and leather notes along with a smoky hint for a delectable experience.
Taste – Medium oil, whiskey/oak, some chocolate, dried fruit, a touch of spice all work together to create an enjoyable tasting experience. Creamy soft caramel and sweet vanilla are just barely detectable above the other flavors which give way seamlessly in this drinkable beauty.
Finish – A sweet, fruity taste with a hint of spice in every breath – this is what you will find when you take a sip from Mellow Monk’s Passionfruit Habanero Mead. You can feel the warmth spread through your body as it leaves a lingering, tingling sensation.
AVION TEQUILA SILVER SINGLE ORIGEN TEQUILA
In order to make the story behind their premium tequila more easily understood, Avion decided to create a decorative box for their liquor.
On top of being beautiful, the box was informative – there was even some Spanish on it! It stated that Avion is one of the few single-origin spirits available on the market because they grow and produce all of their Blue Weber Agave Tequila right in Jesús María, Mexico.
Generally, tequila producers use agave that has been grown in various regions of Mexico. But, Avión Tequila takes a different approach. They grow their own special highland-style agave in order to create a limited edition batch and then mark them with a numbered stamp on the label so you know which one is yours. You won’t find the same distinctive and practical design anywhere else either!
Along the side panel of each bottle are two words etched into it-departure and arrival-to act as a metaphor for life itself; providing a sense of comfort when held no matter what part of your journey you are at now.
FAQs About Who Owns Avion Tequila
Ken, how did you both come together in the first place and why do you believe that Jeezy best represents the Avión brand?
Jeezy sung of his love for Avion in his music, as he spoke of one day meeting the man behind the brand. We had never spoken until I reached out to thank him for expressing himself through his work; we had a 5 hour long meeting where we discussed life and business ambitions. From then on, Jeezy became my official advisor – after all those days and nights spent together in NYC and at Jeezy’s Atlanta studio.
Ken, what have you done as the founder to fuel Avión’s growth in recent years?
To start, Avion has been featured on popular programs such as Entourage which is not a paid activity but rather an act of friendship. My co-founder and friend Kenny Dichter came up with the idea for showing Avion in the show and I supported him through his endeavor. Secondarily, you can taste quality just from one sip of our famous Ultra Premium Spirit. One look at the medal we earned – Gold Medal at Annual San Francisco World Spirits Competition – should tell you all you need to know about how well we make our drinks.
Jeezy, as the Multicultural Advisor to Ken, what are a few insights you can share about the consumer to help Avión reach the multicultural audience?
Don’t be fooled, Ken knows exactly how to communicate with today’s diverse consumer base. As someone who didn’t receive handouts and started at the bottom – consumers can find solace in this because they know what it feels like to work hard for what you want. They appreciate brands that are transparent and honest because these brands recognize their customer’s needs.
Jeezy, how do you think you can be part of that growth? How can you sustain the growth you’ve had?
As our relationship strengthened, I offered any and all help to Ken that would ensure his success. Whether it be providing input on multicultural marketing or continuing to wear Avion as if it were apart of my identity – there are no limits on what I’ll do for the sake of this company. As much as he helped me when we first met, it’s nothing compared to how much he continues to mean to me now.
Because after all, this brand has been a part of my life before meeting him so telling people about its virtues come naturally and is something I can’t wait to do again in order for both parties–Ken included–to succeed at what they’re doing.
Conclusion
For the first time in fifty years, Tequila Casa Dragones has created a new blend for their most famous product. Añejo tequila, traditionally made from at least three years worth of resting and aging process, is blended with young single malt scotch whiskey from the Speyside region of Scotland, creating a smooth blend that can be served either on the rocks or neat. With nine years worth of waiting put into this drink – it was no easy task to create something so elegant – Casa Dragones hopes they have hit on something special and innovative.
Miller, one of the newest members to join the Avión family, remarks It has been exciting working with the Avión team for over a year on this project. Together we were able to create something that truly reflects my own taste preferences – Cristalino I wanted people to experience. With age and complexity in mind, they worked hard developing an appropriate flavor profile which then led them down many different paths until finally settling on a tequila which would stand out amongst other brands.
