Yesterday, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s War was released on an impressive 4000 screens in India. It had been the talk of the town since its announcement, so the expectations were that it would kick off with a bang – something it succeeded in doing, thanks to the good pre–bookings! The film not only managed to live up to those anticipations but surpass them as well.
On its opening day, War released to staggering collections of Rs. 53.35 cr at the box office, breaking Thugs of Hindostan’s record to become the highest all-time opener till date with Rs. 52.25 cr. What’s more, it also outshone Happy New Year (Rs. 44.97 cr), Bharat (Rs. 42.30 cr), Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion (Rs. 41 cr), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs. 40.35 cr), Sultan (Rs 36 .54cr), Dhoom 3 (36 .22cr ), Sanju (Rs 34 .75cr) and Tiger Zinda Hai (Rs 34 .10cr) on Day 1 collections alone! It is indeed a major feat in the history of Indian cinema!
War is currently enjoying an extended five day weekend and, as it has little competition from other releases, it is expected to top the box office. It won’t be a shock if it makes Rs. 100 cr within the next few days either. All that’s left to find out now is if the Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff–starrer goes on to become one of the biggest grossing films of all time.
