Early estimates project that Vikram Vedha earned an approximate amount of Rs. 3.75 crores to 4.05 crores on Saturday, which means that the film had grossed around Rs. 65 crores so far- despite having been out for just eight days since its release date. Furthermore, according to some reports coming in from all over the country, people who watched the movie at theaters rated it quite high across different regions and demographics – despite being a low-budget indie film with only two well-known actors starring in it (Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan).
There is one more opportunity for the company to make money before the end of the week. At Rs. 70 crores, they are nearing their peak earnings and will break even. Even though Vikram Vedha will end up making less money than many other films released this year, it still managed to bring in Rs. 85-90 crore – higher than most people expected from Hrithik Roshan’s latest release, which made us all initially believe it would be a successful project.
After seeing how poorly the film did at first – barely cracking open 100 million Rupees – we saw that during later days (weekends) numbers were much higher; very similar to what happens with movies targeted towards families and children; yet, since they opened at such a low number (Rs 75 million), they could not ever recover from their starting point.
The lifetime business may have fallen short of Rs. 100 crore, and the three-digit figure was simply an attempt to save face for this Pushkar and Gayatri directorial. Fortunately, thanks to the numerous nontheatrical deals reached, the producers will break even – though it won’t mean much considering how little revenue comes from theatrical releases at 40% of total income.
