The journey to greatness began with a step
Varun’s step to greatness began when he joined Tata Consultancy Services as a full stack software
engineer. Due to diligence and commitment, Varun quickly rose to the position of a lead engineer which
he merited. He didn’t stop right there after getting that position, Varun played a critical role of
automating the state government’s manual paper-based work flow system to a full technology driven
electronic workflow system. Varun’s work caused an 85% increase on the government officers’ efficiency
more than manual system and led to 75%-time reduction over years of public grievances and appeals by
the state. Notably, his indomitable intellectual solution was adapted by government agencies
nationwide, UK, Uganda, Kenya and Australia inclusive.
Leadership Journey
Varun secured his second leadership position at Cignex Technology as a lead software engineer. He
handled several projects for multinational companies like Sesame Street, Yell.com, Posadas, EA Sport,
CalWorks Information Network (CaIWIN), Toyota. With his technical skill, Varun sets out to the United
State as a lead architect responsible for redesigning Toyota owner’s portal. One of his notable
achievements during his tenure was the implementation of Toyota owner’s portal, launched in 2011.
This was a significant development as it was used by 40+ million users globally.
In 2013, the mantle of leadership was further crowned on Varun as an engineering leader when he
joined Medimpact Company. His remarkably leadership quality garnered him the responsibility of
managing software engineering teams. Not enough, Varun demonstrated a zeal to do more, he worked
on healthcare solution and project like e-prescribing which helped physicians to check patient’s
insurance details, to reduce insurance and out of pocket cost, reduce fraud, abuse and waste of
medication based on that prescribe medication.
Varun further ventured into working at Enterprise Network System where he contributed to the
reduction in processing time which built custom pharmacy network for customers like Insurance
Company, Government Agencies, Small and Big employer groups in order to provide full prescription
fulfilment coverage to their members, as well as reduce an overall prescription drug price. Varun was
also responsible for the building of a first kind healthcare market place where healthcare solutions like
prescription discount card , diabetes monitoring systems, asthma, dental and vision treatments can be
sold by different vendors to reduce healthcare cost and provide better health services. Varun’s
contribution to healthcare solution project in Medimpact was globally recognized hence earning
Medimpact an award, leading to its growth.
In 2021, Varun Shah once again wore the crown of responsibility when he joined world’s biggest video
game company, Sony PlayStation as an engineering lead. Varun once again exhibited prowess in
revamping PlayStation’s legacy payment gateway services architecture to robust and more scalable
architecture to support 50 million PlayStation global subscribers and their millions of payment
transaction per day. Varun’s excellent contribution led to a 55% reduction in charge back and a 15%
increase in daily transaction.
Desiring to do more, Varun thereafter worked at ServiceNow, where he was solely responsible for the
successful implementation and launch of the ServiceNow Vault Data Anonymization as part of
ServiceNow platform as a Service offering. Notably, this was a critical development as it was one of the
top platform security features integrated with platform. This launch of flexible capabilities was a
strategic move for ServiceNow, which aid ServiceNow 1.6 thousand worldwide customers to protect
their sensitive data, increase security, privacy and compliance across the enterprise.
In his latest venture, Varun has taken on the mantle of a software engineering manager with Amazon to
build life-safety applications for Amazon’s employees. A key role Varun plays at Amazon is to recruit,
mentor, and coach the next generation of software engineers.
