The long-awaited film, Ek Villain Returns directed by Mohit Suri has kicked off to a decent start at the box office. According to initial estimates, the movie earned between Rs. 6.80 to 7.40 crores on its first day, with the attendance gradually increasing from one show to another. Early morning figures suggested an opening of Rs. 6 crores, but with more people flocking in to watch it in the afternoon, the opening day collections went up to the region of Rs. 7 crores. Before the trailer released, the industry was anticipating an opening collection of approximately Rs. 9 to 10 crore.
With the release of Ek Villain Returns, it’s become evident that the further one goes from the metros, the better the occupancy. The combination of thriller, intimacy and music has captivated the masses and lured them into the cinema halls on the opening day. The popularity of Ek Villain’s brand has attracted an audience of the younger generation. Besides that, the film has also succeeded in drawing a faithful fan base of one–sided lovers, who eagerly stepped out to the movie theatres to watch Ek Villain Returns.
Throughout the weekend, we can gain insight into what viewers think of the movie. This beginning bodes well for it to accumulate 25 crore in box office earnings over the course of the weekend, with the potential to climb 10% each day. If the film is able to increase its revenues throughout its theatrical run, it will outperform the majority of Hindi movies released in the same year.
Earning Rs. 50 crores in its lifetime run would be an impressive outcome for the entire star-cast, surpassing the aggregate box–office collections of John Abraham’s previous three films – Mumbai Saga, Satyameva Jayate 2 and Attack. However, the success of this venture will depend on the trends this weekend; a declining trajectory over the two days could prove dangerous for the film on Monday, but if the viewership remains high, then this could serve as a platform to make the movie a commercial success, until the release of Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan on August 11.
