Directed by Mohit Suri, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2014 release Ek Villain, Ek Villain Returns, released on Friday of last week. Starring Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, Disha Patani, and Tara Sutaria, the film had a strong start, grossing Rs. 7.05 crore on its opening day. On the second and third day, the movie showed a consistent growth in collections with Rs. 7.47 cr, and Rs. 9.02 cr respectively. Unfortunately, on its first Monday, the film saw a significant drop of almost 66% in its fourth-day collections compared to its third-day collections.
In this box office report, we look at the first Monday collections of Ek Villain Returns while comparing the same to previous releases of 2022. Collecting Rs. 3.02 cr Ek Villain Returns has emerged as the ninth highest first Monday grosser of 2022. Not surprisingly, preceding the film on the list of highest first Monday grossers are previous releases like KGF – Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 25.57 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 17 cr, The Kashmir Files which collected Rs. 15.05 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 10.75 cr, Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected Rs. 8.19 cr, Samrat Prithviraj which collected Rs. 5 cr, Jugjugg Jeeyo which collected Rs. 4.82 cr, and Bachchhan Paandey which collected Rs. 3.37 cr. However, the Mohit Suri directorial does manage to surpass the collections of Shamshera, which had collected Rs. 2.80 cr on its first Monday.
In the following days, the success of Ek Villain Returns is forecast to be fairly constant. In fact, without facing any major competitors, the film is set to keep going without any disturbances at the box office. As predicted by trade analysts, Ek Villain Returns may potentially earn around Rs. 40 cr in the span of its initial week at the cinemas.
