Released last Friday to a rather good response, The Kashmir Files continues to see an increasing number of patrons at the box office – it is still undefeated after releasing two weekends ago. With some tough competition from other films, there were no holidays involved in this release so it was expected that The Kashmirs File would do poorly when compared to these top recent releases.
However – despite all odds – it has managed to surpass the previous record for opening day collections by collecting Rs. 24.80 crores which places it as the fourth most successful second Saturday film ever released; with Aamir Khan starrer Dangal coming behind at Rs. 23 crore, Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju marginally trailing at Rs. 22 crore and Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan coming in lower than even PK at 19 crores.
Addressing my last point, the entire business of this film has managed to overshadow other releases like Kabir Singh that collected Rs. 17.10 cr, the Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior that collected Rs. 16.36 cr, Padmaavat that collected Rs. 16 cr, and the Salman Khan starrer Tiger Zinda Hai that had collected Rs. 14.92 cr for several consecutive weeks now at a time when we thought it couldn’t go higher anymore! Currently still running to packed houses across India who really can resist from watching something so intriguing? Trade predictions state that this movie would in all likelihood manage to cross the rupees one hundred fifty crore mark by the end of its second weekend running!
