The Rise of Telemedicine – How Medical Doctors are Helping Patients Online

Technology has revolutionized many aspects of people’s lives, including healthcare. With online platforms, you can visit a doctor online instead of traveling to a clinic. Telemedicine minnesota is the practice of providing medical assistance using technology and online resources.

With telemedicine, doctors can reach a wider audience, and patients can see professional practitioners in the comfort of their own homes. In this post, we explain how doctors are using this type of technology to improve the experience for their patients.

    Controlling the Spread of Diseases

During the COVID-19 pandemic, patients, doctors, and nurses were at risk of contracting the virus in hospitals. Other diseases can be spread when coming into close contact with other people, such as:

    • Tuberculosis
    • Influenza
    • Ebola
    • Strep throat
    • Measles
    • Chick pox

However, attending to and diagnosing patients online eliminates the risk of contracting these diseases. Patients don’t have to come into close proximity to others who are sick. Doctors can also protect themselves from contracting diseases by providing online consultations.

    Convenient Consultations Through Video Calls

Some patients may not be able to visit a clinic for a variety of reasons. If you’re bound to a wheelchair, or you have agoraphobia, it will be difficult for you to leave the house to see a doctor. Thankfully, doctors now offer consultations through video calls.

You’ll still get the same form of treatment and quality examinations through video calls, and your doctor can give you a proper diagnosis. The advantage is that you can still speak to your doctor face to face but without having to leave the house.

Doctors can use stock medical footage to advertise their services so they can reach a wider audience.

    Sending Prescriptions Through Medical Platforms

Another way doctors are helping patients online is by sending prescriptions through messages or medical platforms. Prescriptions can be renewed, and patients can ask doctors to prescribe certain medications they may need online.

There are some pharmacies that accept prescriptions online, too, and will deliver medication to patients who can’t leave the house. You can check your medication against your prescription to ensure you’ve received the correct products from your pharmacist.

    Sharing Medical Information

In the past, you may have had to visit a clinic so you could receive your medical test results. This included X-rays, blood tests, or biopsies. Through specific medical platforms, doctors can share test results with their patients quickly and efficiently.

The advantage of sharing medical information online is that it saves space in hospitals. What’s more, the information is easier to retrieve when using an EHR (Electronic Health Record) platform.

On an EHR, doctors can record important information about a patient, such as their medical history, tests, and diagnosis. They can then access this data to see if there have been any improvements during a patient’s medical treatment.

Management and Treatment of Mental Health Conditions

Patients who suffer from depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder may need quick assistance when experiencing an episode. Contacting a counselor or psychologist online is a fast way for patients to connect with their doctors.

A patient can make appointments using calendars on the doctor’s website or app. They can choose which time slots are convenient for them so that it doesn’t affect work or other obligations.

    Multiple Ways of Communication

Although consultations are typically done through video calls, there are other ways doctors can communicate with patients. For general information, doctors can send patients text messages via an EHR or send emails containing documents and test results.

Additionally, to relay information faster, doctors can phone their patients and possibly set up appointments online.

Appointments are Faster and More Personalized

When a patient is feeling ill or has low energy, the last thing they want to do is sit in a waiting room filled with people waiting to see a doctor. Online appointments are quicker because you don’t have to wait in a queue to see a practitioner.

What’s more, since doctors have many patients waiting, they may not have enough time to give their patients their full attention. With online appointments, doctors will be fully engaged and may sit with patients longer to figure out the problem.

Practitioners can give a more personalized experience to patients online, which builds trust and understanding. Patients will continue to visit doctors who take the extra time to provide the best experience possible for them.

    Final Thoughts

If you’re tired of sitting around clinics amongst other sickly people, then perhaps telemedical services are for you. Everything is done online, so you can get the medical advice and prescriptions you need without leaving your home!
