It has been an impressive first week for Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior. As expected, the film did phenomenally on its opening day and made good progress throughout the weekend but reached peak form during the weekday performances where it didn’t seem to lose steam until Friday afternoon.
Mostly due to partial screenings in select areas of India and a favorable reception overall, the period action drama grew stronger with every passing minute over these past few days and emerged victorious by Wednesday afternoon; once again exceeding initial predictions (those from Friday) which predicted a box office haul of only Rs. 10 crores. In fact, Thursday morning brought about yet another successful result as collections soared to an astounding eleven point two three crores rupees (Rs 10 cr being conservative). This is compared to Sunday’s figures – after seven days- which came out at around fifteen point one ten crore rupees [Rs 15 cr].
For Ajay Devgn, this is his greatest success so far. It may even become the next top grossing Bollywood movie after Golmaal Again [RS. 205.70 crores] if it does not eventually surpass it; however, Saif Ali Khan is also smiling from ear to ear because of the film’s success and will be moving on to work on his upcoming films Jawaani Jaaneman and Ghajini. With what we know now, Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has been successful with a total earnings of RS. 118.91 crores which is outstanding for a regional Maharashtrian flavored movie distributed throughout India instead of just Maharashtra or Goa where audiences are primarily found.
