After an impressive debut on Friday, Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior showed consistent growth over the weekend. Early estimates show that it made around Rs. 22.50 cr to 24.50 cr on Saturday which means total collections could be close to Rs. 37-39 crores after two days. In Maharashtra, the film played at near capacity and got full houses all across the state which isn’t surprising given how well it was received there on Day 1 itself! Across India too, theaters reported heavy footfalls as people thronged in large numbers for this latest Bollywood blockbuster release!
While Ajay’s success in his home state of Maharashtra is fueling the film’s success, even other metros such as Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Patna are experiencing about twice the foot traffic. And for a movie like Tanhaji that doesn’t rely too much on commercial theaters – it has nevertheless been accepted by audiences nationwide through an increase from 60 to 65% admissions at major multiplexes (such as PVR, INOX, Cinepolis and Carnival). This indicates widespread approval among viewers who are not ordinarily considered target demographic for historical films.
With mass belt sales rounding off this Sunday, the collections of Tanhaji will accumulate in even more number than before. It would seem that what matters most is people’s need for entertainment after being cornered inside a house all day long, or maybe because it was less expensive than their usual attractions and cheaper than other film releases; but either way Tanhaji is doing great at earning money and giving back its own bit to the country by producing free content from time to time – keep up the good work team!
Directed by Om Raut, this film also features Saif Ali Khan, Kajol and Sharad Kelkar.
