The SS Rajamouli-directed masterpiece, RRR starring Jr. NTR and Ram Charan took the spotlight on Sunday when it accomplished a staggering 3-day haul of Rs. 73 crores to become one of the most successful films of all time in India. Opening on Friday at Rs. 20 crores, this is one record breaking film as every day saw an increase in earnings with Saturday jumping to Rs. 23.75 crores and then again increasing steadily to reach an astronomical sum of Rs. 30 crore on Sunday night – Gujarat contributing the most substantial figures out of any other region with its collection reaching nearly six crores!
This unprecedented rise in numbers suggests that audiences are appreciating such efforts from filmmakers who manage to keep bringing new life into cinema while also maintaining old standards – we can’t wait for Monday evening when predictions are suggesting another large sum will have been achieved!
The movie will now be eyeing a first week total in the range of Rs. 115 crores, which is simply a phenomenal result for any feature film featuring two relatively new actors for audiences in Hindi belts. Yes, it’s directed by SS Rajamouli, who is one of India’s largest celebrities; however, this level of success at the box office deserves appreciation from all aspects – namely producers and viewers alike – because if people are going to come out in droves every time he releases a new work then there has to be something about him other than his fame that makes people go out to see his movies consistently.
Despite being one of the most anticipated movies this year, the movie was still able to garner enough attention for its high-priced tickets. Opening sales for Friday morning weren’t strong, but media reviews coming in helped create buzz and interest for people who may not have otherwise paid such an expensive price just to see a film which had no previous coverage or reviews. Once word started spreading about how good it was (once you actually watched it) – tickets became less and less important!
Even though many critics thought that the filmmakers wouldn’t do well due to its high cost – RRR will now be aiming at having an INR 200 crore revenue thanks to all its success after opening day; placing it among other blockbuster hits such as Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa and Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi… interestingly enough, two out of these three successful Hindi films come from Telugu origins!
