After a sharp decrease of 40% on Friday, Spider-Man: No Way Home has become successful again for the third consecutive day as it collects an estimated 24.50 – 26 crore rupees over the course of 3 days. It appears that these performances are especially good for Mumbai and Delhi because these cities had shown a significant increase in attendance by almost double from what they were before. Estimations so far show that this film will break the record for most money made at the box office during its opening week surpassing Sooryavanshi which only made around 76 crores rupees.
The business is expected to increase even more on Sunday, with Spiderman: No Way Home ending its fourth long week. The 4 day holiday could be in the range of Rs.105 to 110 crore – impressive numbers for such a film that released during an off-peak period and faced stiff competition from Tamil releases across screens.
On top of what is already good business, it’s worth noting that this coming Friday sees another release which can make much bigger gains over Spiderman; but still has only about 50% chances at success thanks to Maharashtra occupancy caps for the weekend. For now though, it’s clearly a one horse race with very high occupancies recorded for IMAX showings where available during the three days since its opening release.
This just goes to show how lucky we are for having films like Pushpa, which despite being up against so many tough competitors managed to draw an opening of Rs. 3.30 crore in the Hindi belts on a limited number of screens – without any promotion at all! On top of that, it’s also opened in other languages as well; gaining viewership from audiences across India who love watching things dubbed from one language to another and vice versa.
The movie openings’ figures today surpass those of most other Bollywood releases this year except for once or twice but what really made us happy is the fact that the footfalls recorded today were way higher than expected because they exceeded those of movies released earlier this year like Sooryavanshi – a movie starring everyone’s favourite superstar Salman Khan himself!
