Though Bunty Aur Babli 2 showed better cumulative performance throughout the three days – even making it to Rs. 180 crores before ending at Rs. 178.60 crores- Sooryavanshi has beaten BAB2 in terms of revenue generated per day with a higher figure for Sunday than Saturday (Rs 5.33 crore vs Rs 3.20 crore).
Although adding just about 7% revenue over its lifetime earnings till date, this was enough encouragement for Akshay Kumar’s latest release to edge closer to the important target of becoming an addition to India’s exclusive club of films that grossed more than Rs 200 crores ($30 million).
Bunty Aur Babli 2 had a bad opening over the weekend, accumulating only Rs. 8.30 crores since its release last week. The Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherji starrer has collected significantly less than expected and this is evident in the fact that they are unable to even match up with other films on the list at Yash Raj Films.
With minimal expectations, a collection of Rs. 20 crores was deemed as doable but these numbers show otherwise; audience interest was not there from the start and so was word-of-mouth reviews which could’ve helped build hype for this movie earlier on. Though collections would rise again after 3 days, it won’t be until Thursday when Satyameva Jayate 2 comes out or until Friday when Antim – The Final Truth releases; after which, people will most likely forget about Bunty Aur Babli 2 altogether.
