Despite being heavily marketed, The Sky Is Pink sadly underperformed at the box office. Upon its release, it had limited recognition and showed no improvement over the weekend or weekdays; ultimately proving unable to spark any interest due to its low word–of–mouth reviews.
As a consequence, the box office collections were disappointingly low at Rs. 15 crores*, making it clear that Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar’s involvement in The Sky Is Pink did not bring about an adequate commercial return for its subject matter. If lesser known or non-mainstream actors had taken the lead roles instead of them, the likelihood of achieving satisfactory figures would have been dubious. Yet with big stars at the helm, there was added pressure to meet audience expectations accordingly.
In its second week, the movie is hardly being viewed. Though War seems to be the favorite among viewers, Joker has been playing as well. In addition to that, more than a dozen of new films will come out this Friday which leads to less available screens and shows for everyone. Since it’s pre-Diwali time – usually considered slow for film industry – and Housefull 4 releasing during Diwali, most films except War will not have much of an opportunity to stay in competition.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited.
