सिद्धनाथ मंदिर, कानपुर
कानपुर के जाजमऊ में भगवान शिव का प्रसिद्ध मंदिर सिद्धनाथ गंगा के तट पर स्थित है। यह मंदिर द्वितीय काशी के नाम से भी प्रसिद्ध है। यहां राजा ययाति द्वारा कराई गई खोदाई में सिद्धनाथ मंदिर के शिवलिंग की प्राप्ति हुई थी।
श्रावण मास में जाजमऊ स्थित सिद्धनाथ मंदिर में महादेव के दर्शन को शहर के साथ अन्य कई शहरों से भी भक्त आते हैं। गंगा स्नान कर भक्त भोले बाबा पर बेल पत्र और चंदन अर्पित कर सुख समृद्धि की कामना करते हैं। सिद्धनाथ मंदिर में श्रावण मास के दौरान जलाभिषेक के लिए भोर पहर से ही भक्तों की लंबी कतार लग जाती है।

मंदिर का इतिहास
मोक्षदायिनी मां गंगा के पावन तट पर स्थित सिद्धनाथ मंदिर का इतिहास त्रेतायुग का है। प्राचीन मंदिर भक्तों में द्वितीय काशी के नाम से चर्चित है। मान्यता है कि राजा ययाति द्वारा कराई गई खोदाई में सिद्धनाथ मंदिर के शिवलिंग की प्राप्ति हुई थी। भक्त बताते हैं कि प्राचीन काल में यहां लगातार 100 यज्ञ पूरे होने के बाद इस स्थल को काशी का दर्जा मिल जाता, लेकिन 100वें यज्ञ के दौरान एक कौवे ने हवन कुंड में हड्डी डाल दी थी। 99 यज्ञ पूरे होने के चलते यह स्थल द्वितीय काशी के रूप में पहचाना जाने लगा।
मंदिर की विशेषता
सिद्धनाथ बाबा को जाजमऊ के कोतवाल के रूप में पूजा जाता है। भक्त गंगा जल से महादेव का जलाभिषेक कर सुख-समृद्धि की कामना करते हैं। श्रावण मास में मंदिर परिसर में विशाल मेले का आयोजन किया जाता है। भक्त बेल पत्र और दूध-दही महादेव पर अर्पित करते हैं। यहां स्थापित शिवलिंग की लंबाई नापने के लिए दो बार खोदाई भी हो चुकी है, लेकिन शिवलिंग के अंतिम छोर का पता नहीं चल सका।

The famous temple of Lord Shiva at Jajmau in Kanpur, Siddhnath is situated on the banks of the Ganges. This temple is also famous by the name of Second Kashi. The Shivling of the Siddhnath temple was found here in the digging done by King Yayati.
In the month of Shravan, devotees come from the city as well as many other cities to visit the Siddhnath temple at Jajmau. After bathing in the Ganges, the devotees offer bel leaves and sandalwood to Bhole Baba and wish for happiness and prosperity. During the month of Shravan in the Siddhnath temple, a long queue of devotees starts from early morning for Jalabhishek.

History of the temple
The history of Siddhnath temple situated on the holy banks of Mokshadayini Maa Ganga dates back to Tretayuga. The ancient temple is known by the name of second Kashi among the devotees. It is believed that the Shivling of the Siddhnath temple was found in the excavation done by King Yayati. Devotees tell that in ancient times this place would have got the status of Kashi after 100 consecutive Yagya were completed here, but during the 100th Yagya, a crow had put a bone in the Havan Kund. Due to the completion of 99 Yagya, this place came to be recognized as the second Kashi.
Specialties of the temple
Siddhnath Baba is worshiped as the Kotwal of Jajmau. Devotees wish for happiness and prosperity by doing Jalabhishek of Mahadev with Ganges water. A huge fair is organized in the temple premises in the month of Shravan. Devotees offer bel patra and milk-curd on Mahadev. Digging has been done twice to measure the length of the Shivling installed here, but the end of the Shivling could not be found.
