The outcome is final for Shamshera, as the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer showed no progress at the box office on its second day. Estimates put the collection at somewhere between Rs. 9.8 to 10.60 crores, marking an overall two-day total of Rs. 20.60 crores for the Yash Raj Films production. Unhappily, it is apparent that the period drama did not find the kind of audience response it needed.
Movies generally experience an increase in viewership on Saturdays, yet Shamshera has not grown. This implies that the motion picture will quickly come to a halt at the box office. Sunday’s collection may surge, due to the mass nature of Shamshera, yet it is unlikely to make a huge difference. At best, Shamshera can garner Rs. 34.50 crores on its opening weekend, making it an underwhelming result.
The cinema halls have already started seeing a decline in their audiences on Saturdays, and by Monday, the footfall for Shamshera is expected to be drastically reduced from its opening day, leaving the banner with a cause to be concerned and to deeply reflect upon. The business from multiplexes is not good either; single screens are even worse off as they have failed to match the viewership of the dud Samrat Prithviraj.
Shamshera is headed for lifetime in range of Rs. 50 to 55 crores, and this range would be the best-case scenario for the film. We don’t rule out the chance of it ending under Rs. 45 crores too!
