सत्यनारायण की व्रत कथा – द्वितीय अध्याय
ऋषि मुनियों को नारद और भगवान विष्णु की कहानी सुनाने के बाद श्री सूत जी ने कहा, “हे मुनिगण! जिस व्यक्ति ने सबसे पहले इस व्रत को किया था मैं उसके बारे में भी आप लोगों को बताता हूं, ध्यान से सुनें।”
एक समय की बात है, सुंदर काशीपुरी नामक नगरी में एक बेहद गरीब ब्राह्मण रहता था। भूखे प्यासे वह ब्राह्मण भोजन की इच्छा लिए धरती पर भ्रमण कर रहा था। यह देख एक दिन सत्यनारायण भगवान खुद बूढ़े ब्राह्मण के रूप में धरती पर आए और उन्होंने उस गरीब ब्राह्मण के पास जाकर पूछा, “आप रोजाना इतना उदास मन लेकर इस धरती पर क्यों घूमते रहते हैं?”

ब्राह्मण ने जवाब में कहा, “मैं एक गरीब ब्राह्मण हूं और भिक्षा की तलाश में धरती पर भ्रमण करने को मजबूर हूं। अगर आपके पास ऐसा कोई उपाय है, जिसका पालन कर मैं अपनी गरीबी दूर कर सकूं, तो मुझे बताइए।”
इस पर बूढ़े ब्राह्मण ने कहा, “तुम भगवान सत्यनारायण की आराधना करो। वह सभी के मन की मुराद को पूरी करते हैं। उनकी पूजा करने वाला हर शख्स दुख और कष्ट से दूर हो जाता है।” इतना कहकर बूढ़े ब्राह्मण का रूप लिए सत्यनारायण भगवान अदृश्य हो गए। उनकी बातें सुनकर निर्धन ब्राह्मण इस व्रत को करने का उपाय सोचने लगा।

रात भर गरीब ब्राह्मण ने इसी के बारे में सोचा और पूरी रात जागने के बाद सत्यनारायण भगवान की पूजा करने के लिए भिक्षा मांगने निकल पड़ा। अन्य दिनों के मुकाबले उस दिन उस ब्राह्मण को काफी ज्यादा भिक्षा मिली। उस भिक्षा से और अपने प्रियजनों के सहयोग से किसी तरह ब्राह्मण ने सत्यनारायण भगवान की पूजा की।
पूजा के बाद उस गरीब ब्राह्मण के सभी दुख दूर हो गए। धीरे-धीरे वह कई संपत्तियों का मालिक हो गया। ब्राह्मण हर महीने नियमित रूप से इस पूजा को करने लगा।
श्री सूत ने कहा, “इस तरह से जो कोई भी सच्ची श्रद्धा के साथ श्री सत्यनारायण भगवान की पूजा करेगा वह सभी प्रकार के दुखों और पापों से मुक्ति पा सकेगा।”
इस पर ऋषिगण बोले, “हे सर्व ज्ञाता सूत जी! उस ब्राह्मण की बातों को सुनकर और किस-किस ने श्री सत्यनारायण भगवान की पूजा की? आप इस बारे में भी हमें बताएं।”

फिर सूत जी ने आगे कहा, “इस व्रत को जिन लोगों ने भी किया मैं उन सभी के बारे में आप लोगों को बताता हूं, ध्यान से सुनें।”
एक बार वह गरीब ब्राह्मण धन और संपत्ति की प्राप्ति के बाद अपने परिजनों के साथ इस व्रत को करने की तैयारी कर रहा था। तभी एक बूढ़ा व्यक्ति लकड़ी बेचते हुए वहां आया। उसने लकड़ियों को बाहर रखा और स्वयं ब्राह्मण के घर के अंदर चला गया।

प्यास से तड़पता वह लकड़ी बेचने वाला जब घर के अंदर आया, तो उसने देखा कि ब्राह्मण पूजा पर बैठा हुआ था। उसने ब्राह्मण को नमस्कार किया और पूछा, “हे मुनिवर! आप यह कौन-सा तप कर रहे हैं और इसे करने से क्या फल मिलेगा?
लकड़हारे के सवालों का उत्तर देते हुए ब्राह्मण ने कहा, “यह व्रत श्री सत्यनारायण भगवान का है। इसे करने से मन की इच्छा पूरी होती है। इसी व्रत का पालन करके मुझे धन की प्राप्ति हुई है।ठ
जानिए कैसे हुआ प्रभु श्री राम का जन्म: प्रभु श्री राम की जन्म कथा
ब्राह्मण से इस व्रत के बारे में सुनकर लकड़हारा बेहद खुश हुआ। उसने चरणामृत व प्रसाद ग्रहण किया और तुरंत अपने घर चला गया। घर पहुंचकर उसने निश्चय किया कि किसी भी हाल में वह भी श्री सत्यनारायण भगवान की पूजा करेगा। इसके लिए वह लकड़ी बेचने उस नगर जा पहुंचा जहां अधिक संख्या में अमीर लोग रहते थे। वहां उसे पहले के मुकाबले अधिक धन मिला।
इसके बाद उस लकड़हारे ने कमाए हुए धन से गेहूं का आटा, केला, घी, शक्कर, दूध सहित सत्यनारायण व्रत में लगने वाली सभी सामग्रियों को खरीदा। फिर उसने अपने परिजनों को भी आमंत्रित किया और पूरी विधि के साथ श्री सत्यनारायण भगवान का व्रत किया। इस पूजा को करने के बाद उस लकड़हारे को भी धन और संपत्ति की प्राप्ति हुई और आखिर में उसे बैकुंठ धाम की प्राप्ति हुई।

Vrat Katha of Satyanarayan – Chapter II
After telling the story of Narad and Lord Vishnu to the sages, Shri Sut ji said, “O sages! I will also tell you about the person who first observed this fast, listen carefully.
Once upon a time, there lived a very poor Brahmin in a city called Sundar Kashipuri. Hungry and thirsty, that Brahmin was roaming on the earth with the desire of food. Seeing this, one day Lord Satyanarayan himself came to earth in the form of an old Brahmin and went to that poor Brahmin and asked, “Why do you keep wandering on this earth with such a sad heart everyday?”

The Brahmin replied, “I am a poor Brahmin and am forced to roam the earth in search of alms. If you have any such remedy, by following which I can remove my poverty, then tell me.
On this the old Brahmin said, “You worship Lord Satyanarayana. He fulfills everyone’s heart’s desire. Everyone who worships him gets away from sorrow and suffering. By saying this, Lord Satyanarayana disappeared in the form of an old Brahmin. After listening to his words, the poor Brahmin started thinking of a way to perform this fast.

The poor Brahmin thought about this throughout the night and after staying awake the whole night went out to beg for alms to worship Lord Satyanarayana. That Brahmin got a lot more alms than on other days. With that alms and with the help of his dear ones somehow the Brahmin worshiped Lord Satyanarayan.
After worship all the sorrows of that poor Brahmin went away. Gradually he became the owner of many properties. The Brahmin started performing this puja regularly every month.
Sri Soot said, “Whoever worships Sri Satyanarayan Bhagwan in this way with true devotion will be freed from all kinds of miseries and sins.”
On this the sages said, “O all-knowing Sut ji! Who else worshiped Shri Satyanarayan Bhagwan after listening to the words of that Brahmin? You tell us about this too.

Then Sut ji further said, “I tell you about all the people who observed this fast, listen carefully.”
Once that poor Brahmin was preparing to observe this fast with his family members after getting wealth and property. Then an old man came there selling wood. He put the woods outside and himself went inside the Brahmin’s house.

When the wood seller who was suffering from thirst came inside the house, he saw that the Brahmin was sitting for worship. He saluted the Brahmin and asked, “O Munivar! What penance are you doing and what will be the result of doing it?
Answering the questions of the woodcutter, the Brahmin said, “This fast is of Lord Satyanarayana. By doing this the desire of the mind is fulfilled. By observing this fast, I have attained wealth.

The woodcutter was very happy to hear about this fast from the Brahmin. He took Charanamrit and Prasad and immediately went to his home. On reaching home, he decided that he too would worship Lord Satyanarayana anyway. For this, he went to the city selling wood where a large number of rich people lived. There he got more money than before.
After this, the woodcutter bought wheat flour, bananas, ghee, sugar, milk and all the ingredients used in the Satyanarayan fast with the money he earned. Then he also invited his family members and performed the fast of Shri Satyanarayan Bhagwan with complete method. After performing this puja, that woodcutter also got wealth and property and finally he got Vaikunth Dham.
