Yesterday saw the release of one of the most anticipated films – Samrat Prithviraj. Hype surrounded the film, with people expecting it to break box office records because of how long it took for this movie to be released. Advance tickets sold out very quickly, especially since there are many big names in this film such as Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, and Sonu Sood who will keep viewers glued through all three hours even if they’re less than excited about historical dramas.
In this box office report, we look at the opening day collections of Samrat Prithviraj while comparing it to other films released in 2022. Collecting just Rs. 10.70 cr on Day 1, Samrat Prithviraj has managed to become the fifth-highest opening day grosser of all time. Preceding it on the list are previous releases such as KGF – Chapter 2 which collected Rs. 53.95 cr, RRR which collected Rs. 20.07 cr, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which collected Rs. 14.11 cr, and Bachchhan Paandey which collected Rs 1325cr.
Samrat Prithviraj did not outdo other recent releases, but instead was better than certain ones. In fact, Samrat Prithviraj made more money than Gangubai Kathiawadi, who collected Rs. 10.50 cr; Heropanti 2 who collected Rs. 6.5 cr; Radhe Shyam which collected Rs. 4.44 cr; The Kashmir Files who collected Rs. 3.55 cr; and Attack – Part 1 who had only managed to collect Rs. 3.38 cr in total.
As of now, Samrat Prithviraj continues to run in theaters. For the film to do well at the box office it will need good word-of-mouth and an increase in spot booking for evening and night shows, but trade predictions say that this movie’s prospects are improving with a rise in ticket sales from high budget groups.
