Last week the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer, Brahmastra directed by Ayan Mukherji had been released to an audience spanning more than 5,000 screens across India. Thought to be one of the most eagerly anticipated films of recent time, it also brought out much hype, hope and expectation – all which were surpassed. The film earned a whopping Rs. 36 crores on its opening day followed up by profits continuously increasing on days 2 and 3 too! Brahmastra managed to earn Rs. 120.75 crores after only three days – astounding enough considering it didn’t even open in some parts of India yet!
In this Box Office Report, we look at Ranbir Kapoor’s previous releases that made it over the Rs. 100 Cr mark while comparing these figures to Brahmastra. As expected, Brahmastra – collecting approx. Rs. 120.75 Cr – has become Ranbir’s 5th release to accomplish this goal; and when ranked against his other films, this makes it come in 3rd place, surpassing Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Rs. 112.48 Cr) and Barfi (Rs. 112.15 Cr).
While on one hand, the opening weekend business of Brahmastra has managed to surpass the lifetime collections of most of Ranbir’s previous releases, it does not manage to compete with Sanju which collected Rs. 342.53 crores and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which collected Rs. 188.57 crores in its lifetime run so far; going forward however, there are high chances that this movie will also break all records under its belt and earn a spot as an important pillar in his illustrious career story – overshadowing the record-breaking performance garnered by Jawaneei Hari Dilwale across theatres around India within two days after release!
