This coming weekend promises to be an eventful one for Indian cinema with the release of two movies (Ram Setu and Thank God) each having already garnered close to Rs.60 crores from Tuesday-Friday alone. Ideally, the amount collected so far should total at least Rs.100 crores but it does not seem likely that this will happen – only time will tell if this number will eventually rise to 100 crore rupees or fall even lower to less than 75 crore rupees by Sunday night; after all, money is always tight!
Let’s talk about Ram Setu first. The film has collected Rs. 41.45 crores in 4 days and the total so far is better than all Akshay Kumar films that have released this year. These are indeed different times where only those who survive stand a chance at success; thus, survival is key for most players today! As of now, his Samrat Prithviraj (highest grossing movie) holds the record for being highest grossing with Rs 68.05 crores– but as predicted earlier – it looks like this too will be broken soon! After collecting 6crore rupees on Thursday alone, we can see how much closer Ram setu has gotten to doubling its mark- or even crossing it- only time will tell!
As for Thank God, it has barely made anything so far. By Friday evening, ticket sales had amounted to only 3.3 crore rupees and with so few days left in the film’s run one can only wonder what exactly audiences think of it. As expected, its popularity trends are similar to that of Ram setu- but unlike Ram Setu which started off strong on its opening day, Thank God began at a much slower pace- and now it seems that trend will continue throughout the entire run. There has been no mention of how much money Thank God has earned yet – though there is speculation that so far its earnings have reached 21.6 crore rupees.
