The long-awaited extended weekend for Diwali has come to an end. And after careful observation, we’re confident about what came out of it – both Ram Setu and Thank God received a good amount of showtime and projection throughout the week with favorable reviews. The movies were never going up against any major blockbuster flicks but still managed to bring in audiences due to their fair level of entertainment value. All they had left to do was maintain this consistency through Sunday which would translate into stable earnings at day’s end.
In this aspect, Ram Setu managed to garner enough numbers for themselves so they could continue performing well at the box office in days to come. In contrast, Thank God had poor success with its declining numbers proving detrimental towards its performance. This trend continued throughout the weekend without any major highs coming up for either film- until it was obvious which film would see more success. With an opening day number of Rs. 15.25 crores and continuing to rise with each passing hour – Ram Setu showed no signs of slowing down while Thank God started off with Rs. 8.10 crores and never saw those numbers climb back up again during the course of the entire weekend.
Nevertheless, the total box office earnings of these two movies are different than what they could have been given all the stars that were in charge. Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan have each scored over fifteen 100 crore club hits, but Ajay Devgan has only achieved twelve such achievements so far. In fact, Ajay’s latest movie – Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior – earned him a 200 crore hit just before the pandemic struck whereas Akshay’s recent film, Sooryavanshi earned him an almost 200 crore hit after the pandemic.
However, they would have to wait some time before they can score another century. At Rs. 56 crores Ram Setu is currently doing quite well and it will probably wind up with a lifetime total between 80-85 crores in the end. On the other hand, Thank God does much worse at Rs 29 crore and could aim for a lifetime total of about 40 crore rupees. Akshay Kumar’s next release will be in 2023 and we can only hope he brings something new this time around. As for Ajay, his upcoming film – Drishyam 2 – is set to come out soon but if it does well then it might become a big hit.
