On Tuesday, Raksha Bandhan plummeted by a huge 85 percent, and Wednesday saw a further dip of 15-20 percent, with estimated collections amounting to between Rs. 1.25-1.40 crores; bringing the seven-day total to an astonishing Rs. 37 crores. This movie appears doomed to finish its theatrical run at an abysmal Rs. 45 crore mark, far below expected targets and easily marking it as one of the biggest flops in recent memory.
Despite Akshay Kumar’s presence, Raksha Bandhan did not attract audiences from the cities or rural areas. Not even once after its release did it draw an audience to reach double digits in viewership. Ground reports didn’t give much confidence to this small film either.
After two weeks in theaters, the disappointing response to Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha may lead to Dobaara outshining both movies this weekend in terms of showings.
