Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan experienced a disastrous opening on its first Tuesday, falling drastically short of expectations after six days. As per our estimations, it earned around 1.35–1.75 crores, amassing a total collection of Rs 36 crores. Tuesday saw an 82 percent decrease in the movie’s revenue making it one of the most remarkable downfalls over the past decade.
Raksha Bandhan is heading towards becoming a colossal theatrical disaster with Tuesday’s collections, and its trend is much worse than Akshay Kumar’s recent releases such as Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey and Bell Bottom. This film will end up with lifetime earnings well under Rs 45 crores.
Raksha Bandhan had already achieved collections of Rs. 35 crores, which would have stayed beneath that figure had it not been for the additional holiday breaks throughout the week. However, on Tuesday exhibitors observed that over 60 percent of shows were cancelled due to the start of Parsi New Year and forecast further drops in revenue come Wednesday.
As Janmashtami falls on Thursday and Friday, the movie might not be able to get the desired attention from viewers during those two days.
