Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, though falling short of the Hindi film industry’s conservative expectations, raked in the vicinity of Rs. 6 to 6.40 crores on Friday, Day 2. The movie exhibited a decline of 25% from the collections of the first day, when compared to the approximately 33% decline registered by Laal Singh Chaddha. Still, the prospects for Day 3 and 4 seem bright, as the family theme of the film could generate stable figures on Saturday and Sunday.
Day 2 saw average footfalls overall in all mass centers, with a surge in attendance noticed in the later shows. In certain locations such as Gujarat, Saurashtra, CI, and Rajasthan, the numbers were higher than Laal Singh Chaddha; however, at all other regions in India, the film failed to compete with Aamir Khan’s release.
It is hoped that the movie will amass Rs. 30 crores by the end of the weekend and then begin to build a sustained stream of revenue. Tuesday will be a defining moment for the movie’s performance in theaters.
