At the start of this month, fans were eager to watch the much–anticipated release of Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s movie, Raksha Bandhan. Although it was pitted against Laal Singh Chaddha in the festive season, the film was expected to have a successful box office run. Sadly, the contrary has been true; with its opening weekend not yielding good numbers, subsequent days have not proven better for the film. On its second week since its release, collections are at an all-time low as well. As per reports from across cinemas and theatres in India, Raksha Bandhan stands as one of Akshay Kumar’s least grossing movies in recent times – raking in a total of Rs 42.20 crore over its entire theatrical run.
Akshay Kumar, regarded as one of the most reliable actors in the industry, had his own period of setbacks starting from December 2008 when Jumbo released until April 2009. All three releases were unsuccessful at the box office, though he has been having some major hits along with few failures here and there. However, the current year is bringing a threefold series of misfortune for him; Bachchan Pandey, Samrat Prithviraj and now Raksha Bandhan have all become financial flops.
