Akshay Kumar is returning to the silver screen with the Aanand L Rai–directed Raksha Bandhan. On Friday, the advance ticket sales for this family drama kicked off, with the movie having sold a whopping 18,000 tickets all over India and generating an opening day advance of approximately Rs. 35 lakhs.
Out of 18,000 tickets, nearly 9,000 have been bought from three of the major theatre chains in India, namely PVR, Inox and Cinepolis. The remaining 50 percent were purchased from non-national chains. Due to its title – Raksha Bandhan – it is anticipated that the movie will be the preferred choice of walk-in audiences on the day of its release, mainly comprised of middle and lower middle class families.
The preliminary figures of ticket sales are at Rs. 8 crores, however, if Raksha Bandhan opens at Rs. 9.50 to 11.50 crores it will not come as a shock. It is estimated that the total advance booking of the movie throughout the nation stands at Rs. 3 crores, and the final day one collections will largely depend on the walk in audience.
