At the of its release, Baahubali: The Beginning (Hindi) was able to generate an impressive Rs. 117 crores. Before the debut of Pushpa: The Rise Part 1 (Hindi), if someone predicted that it would near this milestone, then their remarks would have been laughed off. After all, the promotion for the SS Rajamouli movie was far greater, the scope of production was on an entirely different level, its distribution wasn’t wide–spread, there was no support from prominent producers such as Karan Johar and, to make matters worse, this was all happening amidst a global pandemic.
Incredibly, the film is its lifetime box office total. It won’t hit Rs. 117 crores, but it’s definitely on track to hit Rs. 110 crores. After playing in theatres for eight weeks, and entering its ninth weekend, the film has now achieved a staggering Rs. 106 crores*. It’s continued to draw large crowds at the single screens of the interiors, with its songs becoming even more popular among the youth, and a flood of memes emerging as well. All of this has helped propel the film’s success.
The moviebeen a tremendous success, a rarity amongst those only occurring every four or five years. Its triumph is all the more significant given that it has happened during a global pandemic, providing cause for celebration.
