The Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1 that released last December still continues to run in theatres. The film which came along with little expectations surprised everyone as it emerged as one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year. After a sluggish start, the business of Pushpa saw exponential growth over the following weeks before settling down to its current stable revenue.
Still, after six weeks in theatre, the movie remains popular among audiences, especially those from Mumbai where it’s earned close to Rs 36 crore making it rank as the second highest grosser for any movie inside this territory since ‘83 made about Rs 81 crore-the first most successful film ever to release here. With such convincing numbers coming out for what seemed like an underdog story about domestic life triumphs over personal ambition; makers are gearing up for its sequel; something we hear is already on cards!
Furthermore, in the Indian regions of Delhi – Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh Pushpa: The Rise has done much better than 83 too. Here though it’s still outdone by Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi. To date with the cumulative collections of Pushpa pegged at Rs. 94.56 crores, speculation is high that the business of this film will surpass the 100 cr mark shortly. With more new releases choosing to release their films at a later date Pushpa: The Rise retains its edge over other films due to its wide availability across theatres.
