Panga had a disappointing opening weekend at the box office. With an initial prediction of opening up to Rs. 4 crores, even that was lowered once it became clear there would be competition with Street Dancer 3D and Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior. As of Sunday night Panga had grossed only Rs. 2.70 crores according to reports.
The collections so far have been promising. This is because this kind of film usually succeeds when it’s watched during the weekends – especially on Saturdays and Sundays when people can come together to spend time with their loved ones. Even though we are still early in its run, I feel that Panga will be a success if it has collected close to 13-15 crore rupees (~1.2 million USD) each week by now. At least this amount will represent a base for future earnings while also showing growth from releases prior – namely Judgementall Hai Kya which earned 1 crore rupees (~116 thousand USD) per week during its lifetime theatrical run.
