मां शैलपुत्री की कथा (Story of Maa Shailputri)
मां शैलपुत्री को सती के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। उनकी कथा इस प्रकार है- एक बार प्रजापति दक्ष ने यज्ञ करने का निश्चय किया। इसके लिए उन्होंने सभी देवताओं को निमंत्रण भेजा, लेकिन भगवान शिव को नहीं। देवी सती अच्छी तरह जानती थीं कि उनके पास निमंत्रण आएगा, लेकिन ऐसा नहीं हुआ। वह उस यज्ञ में जाने के लिए बेचैन थी, लेकिन भगवान शिव ने मना कर दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि उनके पास यज्ञ में जाने का कोई निमंत्रण नहीं आया है और इसलिए वहां जाना उचित नहीं है। सती नहीं मानी और बार-बार यज्ञ में जाने का आग्रह करती रहीं। सती की अवज्ञा के कारण शिव को उनकी बात माननी पड़ी और अनुमति दे दी।
जब सती अपने पिता प्रजापिता दक्ष के यहां पहुंचीं तो उन्होंने देखा कि कोई उनसे आदर और प्रेम से बात नहीं कर रहा है। सब लोग उनसे बुरा बर्ताव कर रहे थे केवल उनकी माँ ने उन्हें प्यार से गले लगाया। उनकी बहनें उनका उपहास कर रही थीं और सती के पति भगवान शिव का भी तिरस्कार कर रही थीं। खुद दक्ष ने भी अपमान करने का कोई मौका नहीं छोड़ा। ऐसा व्यवहार देखकर सती उदास हो गईं। वह अपना और अपने पति का अपमान सहन नहीं कर सकी… और फिर अगले ही पल उन्होंने वह कदम उठाया जिसकी खुद दक्ष ने भी कल्पना नहीं की होगी।
सती ने उसी यज्ञ की अग्नि में स्वयं को मार कर अपने प्राणों की आहुति दे दी। जैसे ही भगवान शिव को इस बात का पता चला, वे दुखी हो गए। दु:ख और क्रोध की ज्वाला में जलकर शिव ने उस यज्ञ को नष्ट कर दिया। इस सती का पुन: हिमालय में जन्म हुआ और वहीं जन्म होने के कारण उनका नाम शैलपुत्री पड़ा।
माँ ब्रह्मचारिणी व्रत कथा (Mother Brahmacharini Vrat Katha)
मान्यताओं के अनुसार, जब माता ने राजा हिमालय की पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लिया था। बड़े होने के बाद मां ने नारद जी की शिक्षाओं से भगवान शिव शंकर को पति के रूप में पाने के लिए कठोर तपस्या की। इसी तपस्या के कारण उनका नाम ब्रह्मचारिणी पड़ा। उन्होंने एक हजार साल तक फल और फूल खाकर समय बिताया और सौ साल तक जमीन पर ही रह कर तपस्या की।
शिव शंकर को पाने के लिए माता ने कठोर व्रत रखा। खुले आसमान के नीचे उन्हें बारिश और धूप का भीषण दर्द सहना पड़ा। तीन हजार साल तक मां ने टूटे हुए बिल्वपत्र खाकर भोलेनाथ की पूजा की। बाद में मां ने सूखे बिल्वपत्र भी खाना बंद कर दिया। इसी के कारन उनका नाम अपर्णा भी है। माता ने निर्जल और भूखे रहकर कई हजार वर्षों तक घोर तपस्या की।
कठिन तपस्या से देवी मां का शरीर पूरी तरह से सूख गया। तब देवताओं, मुनियों ने ब्रह्मचारिणी माता की तपस्या की सराहना करते हुए कहा, हे माता, संसार में इतनी कठोर तपस्या कोई नहीं कर सकता। ऐसी तपस्या आप ही कर सकती हैं। आपकी इस तपस्या से आपको भोलेनाथ पति के रूप में अवश्य ही प्राप्त होंगे। यह सुनकर माँ ब्रह्मचारिणी ने तपस्या को पूरा किया और अपने पिता के घर चली गई। वहां जाने के कुछ दिन बाद मां ने शिव शंकर को पति के रूप में प्राप्त किया।
माता चंद्रघंटा की कथा (Story of Mata Chandraghanta)
प्रचलित कथा के मुताबिक, माता दुर्गा ने मां चंद्रघंटा का अवतार तब लिया था जब दैत्यों का आतंक बढ़ने लगा था. उस समय महिषासुर का भयंकर युद्ध देवताओं से चल रहा था. महिषासुर देवराज इंद्र का सिंहासन प्राप्त करना चाहता था. वह स्वर्ग लोक पर राज करने की इच्छा पूरी करने के लिए यह युद्ध कर रहा था. जब देवताओं को उसकी इस इच्छा का पता चला तो वे परेशान हो गए और भगवान ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश के सामने पहुंचे. ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश ने देवताओं की बात सुन क्रोध प्रकट किया और क्रोध आने पर उन तीनों के मुख से ऊर्जा निकली. उस ऊर्जा से एक देवी अवतरित हुईं. उस देवी को भगवान शंकर ने अपना त्रिशूल, भगवान विष्णु ने अपना चक्र, इंद्र ने अपना घंटा, सूर्य ने अपना तेज और तलवार और सिंह प्रदान किया. इसके बाद मां चंद्रघंटा ने महिषासुर का वध कर देवताओं की रक्षा की.
माता कूष्मांडा की कथा (Story of Mata Kushmanda)
पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जब सृष्टि का अस्तित्व नहीं था, तब इन्हीं देवी ने ब्रह्मांड की रचना की थी। ये ही सृष्टि की आदि-स्वरूपा, आदिशक्ति हैं। इनका निवास सूर्यमंडल के भीतर के लोक में है। वहां निवास कर सकने की क्षमता और शक्ति केवल इन्हीं में है।
इनके शरीर की कांति और प्रभा भी सूर्य के समान ही दैदीप्यमान हैं। मां कूष्मांडा की उपासना से भक्तों के समस्त रोग-शोक मिट जाते हैं। इनकी भक्ति से आयु, यश, बल और आरोग्य की वृद्धि होती है। मां कूष्माण्डा अत्यल्प सेवा और भक्ति से प्रसन्न होने वाली हैं।
इनका वाहन सिंह है। नवरात्र -पूजन के चौथे दिन कूष्माण्डा देवी के स्वरुप की ही उपासना की जाती है। इस दिन माँ कूष्माण्डा की उपासना से आयु, यश, बल, और स्वास्थ्य में वृद्धि होती है।
स्कंद माता कथा (Skanda Mata Story)
दुर्गा पूजा के पांचवें दिन देवताओं के सेनापति कुमार कार्तिकेय की माता की पूजा की जाती है। कुमार कार्तिकेय को ग्रंथों में सनत-कुमार, स्कंद कुमार कहा गया है। माता का पांचवा रूप शुभ्रा यानि श्वेत है।
जब अत्याचारी दैत्यों के अत्याचार बढ़ जाते हैं तो संतों की रक्षा के लिए माता सिंह पर सवार होकर दुष्टों का अंत करती है। देवी स्कंदमाता की चार भुजाएँ हैं, माँ के दो हाथों में कमल का फूल है और एक भुजा में भगवान स्कंद (कुमार कार्तिकेय) को सहारा देते हुए उनकी गोद में विराजमान हैं। मां का चौथा हाथ भक्तों को आशीर्वाद देने की मुद्रा में है।
देवी स्कंद माता हिमालय पार्वत की पुत्री हैं, उन्हें माहेश्वरी और गौरी के नाम से जाना जाता है। पर्वत राज की पुत्री होने के कारण इन्हें पार्वती कहा जाता है, महादेव की पत्नी होने के कारण उन्हें माहेश्वरी कहा जाता है और उनके गौर चरित्र के कारण उन्हें देवी गौरी के नाम से पूजा जाता है। माँ अपने बेटे से ज्यादा प्यार करती है, इसलिए माँ को अपने बेटे के नाम से पुकारना अच्छा लगता है। जो भक्त मां के इस रूप की पूजा करता है, मां अपने पुत्र की तरह उस पर अपना स्नेह बरसाती है।
भोले शंकर को पति के रूप में पाने के लिए माता ने बड़ा व्रत किया, महादेव की आदरपूर्वक पूजा करनी चाहिए, क्योंकि यदि उनकी पूजा नहीं की जाती है, तो उन्हें देवी की कृपा नहीं मिलती है। देवी लक्ष्मी के साथ श्री हरि की पूजा करनी चाहिए।
माता कात्यायनी की कथा (Story of Mata Katyayani)
पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार जब महर्षि कात्यायन ने मां नवदुर्गा की घोर तपस्या की थी। तब माता उनकी तपस्या से प्रसन्न हुई और उनके घर उनकी पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लिया। देवी दुर्गा का जन्म महर्षि कात्यायन के आश्रम में हुआ था। माता का लालन-पालन ऋषि कात्यायन ने किया था। आश्विन मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी को देवी दुर्गा का जन्म ऋषि कात्यायन के यहाँ हुआ था। मां के जन्म के बाद ऋषि कात्यायन ने भी अपनी बेटी मां दुर्गा की 3 दिनों तक पूजा की। तीन दिनों तक ऋषि की पूजा स्वीकार करने के बाद, देवी ने ऋषि से विदा ली। महिषासुर राक्षस के बढ़ते अत्याचार के कारण, माँ कात्यायनी ने महिषासुर को युद्ध में चुनौती दी और उनका अंत कर दिया, इसलिए उन्हें महिषासुर मर्दानी भी कहा जाता है।
मां कालरात्रि कथा (Maa Kalratri Story)
एक पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, एक रक्तबीज नाम का राक्षस था। मनुष्य के साथ देवता भी इससे परेशान थे।रक्तबीज दानव की विशेषता यह थी कि जैसे ही उसके रक्त की बूंद धरती पर गिरती तो उसके जैसा एक और दानव बन जाता था। इस राक्षस से परेशान होकर समस्या का हल जानने सभी देवता भगवान शिव के पास पहुंचे। भगवान शिव को ज्ञात था कि इस दानव का अंत माता पार्वती कर सकती हैं।
भगवान शिव ने माता से अनुरोध किया। इसके बाद मां पार्वती ने स्वंय शक्ति व तेज से मां कालरात्रि को उत्पन्न किया। इसके बाद मां दुर्गा ने दैत्य रक्तबीज का अंत किया और उसके शरीर से निकलने वाले रक्त को मां कालरात्रि ने जमीन पर गिरने से पहले ही अपने मुख में भर लिया। इस रूप में मां पार्वती कालरात्रि कहलाई।
मां महागौरी कथा – (Maa Mahagauri Katha)
मां दुर्गा के आठवें रूप महागौरी के बारे में दो पौराणिक कथाएं प्रचलित हैं। पहली कथा के अनुसार पर्वतराज हिमालय के घर में जन्म लेने के बाद माता पार्वती ने भगवान शिव को पति के रूप में पाने के लिए घोर तपस्या की थी। तपस्या करते हुए मां हजारों वर्षों से उपवास कर रही थी, जिससे मां का शरीर काला पड़ गया था। वहीं दूसरी ओर माता की कठोर तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान शिव ने माता पार्वती को अपनी पत्नी के रूप में स्वीकार कर लिया और गंगा के पवित्र जल से माता के शरीर को धोकर उन्हें अत्यंत दीप्तिमान बना दिया, माता का रूप गौरवान्वित हो गया। जिसके बाद माता पार्वती के इस रूप को महागौरी कहा गया।
दूसरी कथा – second story
वहीं दूसरी ओर एक अन्य कथा के अनुसार कालरात्रि के रूप में सभी राक्षसों का वध करने के बाद भोलेनाथ ने माता पार्वती को उनको मां काली कहकर चिढ़ाया था। अपनी त्वचा को उत्तेजित करने के लिए, माँ ने कई दिनों तक घोर तपस्या की और ब्रह्मा जी को अर्घ्य दिया। देवी पार्वती से प्रसन्न होकर ब्रह्मा ने उन्हें हिमालय में मानसरोवर नदी में स्नान करने की सलाह दी। भगवान ब्रह्मा की सलाह के बाद, माँ पार्वती ने मानसरोवर में स्नान किया। इस नदी में स्नान करने के बाद माता को स्वरूप का अभिमान हो गया। इसलिए माता के इस रूप को महागौरी कहा गया। आपको बता दें कि माता पार्वती देवी भगवती का रूप हैं।
माता सिद्धिदात्री की कथा (Story of Mata Siddhidatri)
एक पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, भगवान शिव ने मां सिद्धिदात्री की कठोर तपस्या कर आठों सिद्धियों को प्राप्त किया था। साथ ही मां सिद्धिदात्री की कृपा ने भगवान शिव का आधा शरीर देवी हो गया था और वह अर्धनारीश्वर कहलाए। मां दुर्गा का यह अत्यंत शक्तिशाली स्वरूप है। शास्त्रों के अनुसार, देवी दुर्गा का यह स्वरूप सभी देवी-देवताओं के तेज से प्रकट हुआ है। कहते हैं कि दैत्य महिषासुर के अत्याचारों से परेशान होकर सभी देवतागण भगवान शिव और प्रभु विष्णु के पास गुहार लगाने गए थे। तब वहां मौजूद सभी देवतागण से एक तेज उत्पन्न हुआ। उस तेज से एक दिव्य शक्ति का निर्माण हुआ। जिन्हें मां सिद्धिदात्री के नाम से जाना जाता हैं।
Maa Shailputri is also known as Sati. Her story is as follows – Once Prajapati Daksha decided to perform a Yagya. For this he sent invitations to all the gods, but not to Lord Shiva. Goddess Sati knew very well that an invitation would come to her, but it did not happen. She was restless to go to that yagya, but Lord Shiva refused. He said that he has not received any invitation to go to the Yagya and hence it is not appropriate to go there. Sati did not obey and kept urging again and again to go to the yagya. Due to Sati’s disobedience, Shiva had to obey her and gave her permission.
When Sati reached her father Prajapita Daksha’s place, she saw that no one was talking to her with respect and love. Everyone was treating her badly only her mother hugged her lovingly. Her sisters were ridiculing her and also despising Lord Shiva, the husband of Sati. Even Daksha himself did not leave any chance to insult her. Seeing such behavior, Sati became sad. She could not bear the humiliation of herself and her husband… and then the very next moment she took a step that even Daksha himself could not have imagined.
Sati sacrificed her life by killing herself in the fire of the same yagya. As soon as Lord Shiva came to know about this, he became sad. Burning in the flames of sorrow and anger, Shiva destroyed that yagya. This Sati was again born in the Himalayas and because of her birth there, she was named Shailputri.
Mother Brahmacharini Vrat Katha
According to the beliefs, when the mother was born as the daughter of King Himalaya. After growing up, the mother did severe penance to get Lord Shiva Shankar as her husband by the teachings of Narad ji. Due to this penance, she was named Brahmacharini. She spent time eating fruits and flowers for a thousand years and did penance by staying on the ground for a hundred years.
Mother kept a strict fast to get Shiva Shankar. Under the open sky, she had to bear the severe pain of rain and sun. For three thousand years, the mother worshiped Bholenath by eating broken bilva leaves. Later the mother also stopped eating dried bilva leaves. Because of this, her name is also Aparna. Mother did severe penance for several thousand years, being waterless and hungry.
Due to severe penance, the body of the Mother Goddess completely dried up. Then the deities, sages, appreciating the penance of Brahmacharini Mata, said, O mother, no one in the world can do such severe penance. Only you can do such penance. By this austerity of yours, you will definitely get Bholenath in the form of husband. Hearing this, Mother Brahmacharini completed her penance and went to her father’s house. A few days after going there, the mother received Shiva Shankar as her husband.
According to the popular legend, Mata Durga took the incarnation of Mother Chandraghanta when the terror of the demons started increasing. At that time the fierce battle of Mahishasura was going on with the gods. Mahishasura wanted to get the throne of Devraj Indra. He was doing this war to fulfill his desire to rule the heavenly world. When the gods came to know of his wish, they got upset and appeared in front of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh expressed their anger after listening to the deities and when they got angry, energy came out of their mouth. A goddess descended from that energy. Lord Shankar gave his trident, Lord Vishnu his chakra, Indra his bell, Surya his sharp and sword and lion to that goddess. After this Mother Chandraghanta killed Mahishasura and protected the gods.
According to the legend, it is said that when the universe did not exist, it was this goddess who created the universe. This is the original form, the Adi Shakti of the universe. Their abode is in the inner world of the solar system. She alone has the capacity and power to reside there.
The radiance and radiance of her body are equally as radiant as the sun. Worshiping Maa Kushmanda removes all the diseases and sorrows of the devotees. Their devotion increases life, fame, strength and health. Maa Kushmanda is going to be pleased with little service and devotion.
The lion is her conveyance. On the fourth day of Navratri worship, only the form of Goddess Kushmanda is worshipped. Worshiping Maa Kushmanda on this day increases life, fame, strength, and health.
On the fifth day of Durga Puja, the mother of the commander of the gods, Kumar Kartikeya is worshipped. Kumar Kartikeya has been called Sanat-Kumar, Skanda Kumar in the texts. The fifth form of Mother is Shubra i.e. white.
When the atrocities of the tyrannical demons increase, to protect the saints, Mata rides on a lion and ends the wicked. Goddess Skandamata has four arms, Mother holds a lotus flower in two hands and in one arm is seated on her lap supporting Lord Skanda (Kumar Kartikeya). The fourth hand of the mother is in the posture of blessing the devotees.
Goddess Skanda Mata is the daughter of Himalaya Parvat, she is known as Maheshwari and Gauri. She is called Parvati, being the daughter of Parvat Raj, being the wife of Mahadev, she is called Maheshwari and because of her gaur character, she is worshiped as Goddess Gauri. Mother loves more than her son, so it is good to call mother by her son’s name. The devotee who worships this form of the mother, the mother showers her affection on him like her son.
In order to get Bhole Shankar as her husband, the mother made a big fast, Mahadev should be worshiped with respect, because if he is not worshiped, she does not get the grace of the Goddess. Shri Hari should be worshiped along with Goddess Lakshmi.
According to the legend, when Maharishi Katyayan did severe penance for Mother Navdurga. Then the mother was pleased with his penance and took birth in his house as his daughter. Goddess Durga was born in the ashram of Maharishi Katyayan. The mother was brought up by sage Katyayan. Goddess Durga was born to sage Katyayan on the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. After the birth of the mother, sage Katyayan also worshiped his daughter Maa Durga for 3 days. After accepting the worship of the sage for three days, the goddess bid farewell to the sage. Due to the increasing tyranny of the demon Mahishasura, Maa Katyayani challenged and put an end to Mahishasura in battle, hence she is also called Mahishasura Mardani.
According to a legend, there was a demon named Raktabeej. Along with humans, the gods were also troubled by this. The specialty of the Raktabeej demon was that as soon as a drop of his blood fell on the earth, another demon like him became like him. Troubled by this demon, all the gods reached Lord Shiva to know the solution of the problem. Lord Shiva knew that Mata Parvati can put an end to this demon.
Lord Shiva requested the mother. After this Maa Parvati herself created Maa Kalratri with her power and brilliance. After this, Maa Durga put an end to the demon Raktabeej and the blood coming out of his body was filled by Maa Kalratri in her mouth before falling on the ground. In this form Goddess Parvati is called Kalratri.
There are two mythological stories about Mahagauri, the eighth form of Maa Durga. According to the first story, after being born in the house of the mountain king Himalaya, Mother Parvati did severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. While doing penance, the mother was fasting for thousands of years, due to which the body of the mother had turned black. On the other hand, Lord Shiva, pleased by the severe penance of the mother, accepted Mother Parvati as his wife and by washing the body of the mother with the holy water of the Ganges, made her very radiant, the mother’s form became proud. After which this form of Mother Parvati was called Mahagauri.

On the other hand, according to another story, after killing all the demons in the form of Kalratri, Bholenath teased Mata Parvati by calling her mother Kali. To stimulate her skin, the mother did severe penance for several days and offered Arghya to Brahma. Pleased with Goddess Parvati, Brahma advised her to take a bath in the Mansarovar river in the Himalayas. Following the advice of Lord Brahma, Mother Parvati took a bath in Mansarovar. After bathing in this river, the mother became proud of the form. That’s why this form of mother was called Mahagauri. Let us tell you that Goddess Parvati is a form of Goddess Bhagwati.
According to the mythology, Lord Shiva attained all the eight siddhis by doing severe penance of Maa Siddhidatri. At the same time, due to the grace of Mother Siddhidatri, half the body of Lord Shiva had become a goddess and he was called Ardhanarishvara. This is a very powerful form of Maa Durga. According to the scriptures, this form of Goddess Durga has appeared from the brilliance of all the gods and goddesses. It is said that all the deities had gone to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu after being troubled by the atrocities of the demon Mahishasura. Then a radiance arose from all the deities present there. From that radiance a divine power was created. She is known as Maa Siddhidatri.
