नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग का इतिहास और इससे जुड़ी कहानी
नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग है यह ज्योतिर्लिंग भारत के गुजरात राज्य में है, और गुजरात राज्य के द्वारिकापुरी से 17 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है। भारत के द्वारिकापुरी में नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग के परिसर में भगवान शिव की एक बड़ी ही मनमोहक ध्यान मुद्रा में विशाल प्रतिमा बनाई गई है जिसकी वजह से मंदिर 3 किलोमीटर की दूरी से ही दिखाई देने लगता है। भगवान शिव जी की यह मूर्ति 80 फीट ऊंची तथा इसकी चौड़ाई 25 फीट है। तथा इसका मुख्य द्वार अत्यंत साधारण और सुंदर है।

नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग का अर्थ, महत्व व इतिहास
ऐसा माना जाता है की नागेश्वर अर्थात की नागों का ईश्वर नागों का देवता वासुकी जी भगवान शिव जी के गले में कुंडली मार कर बैठे रहते है । इस मन्दिर मैं स्थापित ज्योतिर्लिंग का दर्शन करने वालों के लिए भगवान शिव जी की बहुत महिमा है। कहा जाता है कि इस मंदिर में विष से संबंधित सभी रोग से मुक्ति प्राप्त हो जाती है। भगवान शिवजी के 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में स्थापित श्री विश्वनाथ का यह दसवां ज्योतिर्लिंग माना गया है।
भगवान शिव जी के इन मंदिरों को ज्योतिर्लिंग कहा जाता है, क्योंकि इन स्थानों पर भगवान शिव जी अपने भक्तों की श्रद्धा पूर्वक पूजन से प्रसन् होकर स्वयं उत्पन्न हुए थे। धार्मिक ग्रंथों के लेखों में कहा गया है कि इस पवित्र ज्योतिर्लिंग के श्रद्धा पूर्वक दर्शन करने से पापों से मुक्ति प्राप्त होती है। हिंदुओं का यह प्राचीन एवं प्रमुख मंदिर केवल भगवान शिव जी को समर्पित है। जिसमें शिवजी की श्रद्धा पूर्वक पूजा आराधना नागेश्वर के रूप में की जाती है। इस ज्योतिर्लिंग को रूद्र संहिता में दारकावने नागेश के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।

नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग की धार्मिक मान्यताएं:
धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार भगवान शिव को नागों के देवता के रूप में जाना जाता है। नागेश्वर का संपूर्ण अर्थ नागों का ईश्वर है। पौराणिक कथाओं में इस ज्योतिर्लिंग के दर्शन की कथा एक बड़ी विशाल महिमा बताई गई है। इस ज्योतिर्लिंग की भी विभिन्न रोचक कहानियां है जिसे सभी श्रद्धा पूर्वक सुनते हैं। कहा जाता है कि महात्माओं की कथा को श्रद्धापूर्वक सुनने से जीवन में किए गए सभी पापों से मुक्ति मिलती है।
यह मंदिर सुबह 5:00 बजे आरती के साथ खुलता है, किंतु भक्तों के लिए यह मंदिर 6:00 बजे खुलता है।
मंदिर के पुजारियों द्वारा कई विधियों द्वारा शिवजी की श्रद्धा पूर्वक पूजा तथा अभिषेक किए जाते हैं। भगवान शिव जी के द्वार पर आने वाले श्रद्धालुओं के लिए शाम 4:00 बजे श्रृंगार दर्शन होते हैं, तत्पश्चात गर्भ गृह में प्रवेश करने पर प्रतिबंध होता है। यहां पर पुजारियों द्वारा भगवान शिव जी की शाम की आरती सांय 7:00 बजे की जाती है तथा भक्तों के दर्शन का समय रात्रि 9:00 बजे समाप्त हो जाता है। भगवान शिव जी के त्यौहार और विषेश शुभ अवसर पर यह मंदिर अधिक समय तक खुला रहता है।

नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग का निर्माण कार्य:-
भगवान शिव जी के इस दसवीं ज्योतिर्लिंग का निर्माण कार्य अत्यंत अद्भुत तथा सौंदर्यकरण विधि से करवाया गया है। नागेश्वर मंदिर के मुख्य गर्भ गृह के निचले स्तर पर भगवान शिव जी के इस ज्योतिर्लिंग को स्थापित किया गया है। इस ज्योतिर्लिंग के ऊपर भगवान शिव जी का एक चांदी का बड़ा नाग स्थापित किया गया है। इतना ही नहीं इस अद्भुत ज्योतिर्लिंग के पीछे ही माता पार्वती की प्रतिमा की स्थापना भी की गई है। इस ज्योतिर्लिंग का मंदिर अत्यंत अद्भुत सौंदर्य पूर्वक तरीके से बनाया गया है। कहा जाता है, कि जिन श्रद्धालुओं को ज्योतिर्लिंग का अभिषेक करना है वहां के पुजारियों से अनुरोध करके सफेद धोती पहनकर अभिषेक करवाते हैं।
नागेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग की पौराणिक कथा
धार्मिक पुराणों के अनुसार कहा जाता है, कि सुप्रिय नामक एक धार्मिक तथा सदाचारी वैश्य था। वह भगवान शिव जी का परम भक्त था। वह इतना शिव प्रेमी था की भगवान शिव जी की दिनभर आराधना और ध्यान में लीन रहता था। वह अपने कार्य भगवान शिवजी को अर्पित करके ही करता था। मन, क्रम, वचन सबसे वह शिव जी की पूजा में लगा रहता था। उसकी श्रद्धा पूर्वक शिवजी की पूजा आराधना से दारुक नाम का राक्षस अत्यंत घृणा करता था। वह निरंतर यह प्रयत्न करता था कि उसकी पूजा आराधना में विघ्न पैदा करें।

वह सुप्रीय की पूजन विधि में विघ्न पैदा करने के लिए अवसर देख रहा था तभी उसे एक दिन बहुत सुनहरा अवसर प्राप्त हुआ। जब सुप्रिय अपने नौका पर सवार होकर कहीं जा रहा था, तभी दारुक ने उस पर आक्रमण कर दिया। उस पर आक्रमण करने के पश्चात उसकी नौका में सवार सभी यात्रियों को पकड़कर अपनी राजधानी में ले जाकर सुप्रिय सहित सभी यात्रियों को कैद कर लिया।
सुप्रीय शिव जी का परम भक्त होने के कारण वह कारागार में भी निरंतर भगवान शिव जी की पूजा आराधना श्रद्धा पूर्वक करने लगा। वह अपने साथ कारागार में कैद किए गए यात्रियों को भी भगवान शिव जी की भक्ति की प्रेरणा देता तथा उन्हें पूजन विधि करने का अनुरोध करता। इस विषय में दारूक के सेवक द्वारा सुप्रीम की शिव भक्ति की समाचार जब उसे प्राप्त हुई तो वह अत्यंत क्रोधित होकर उसके कारागार में जा पहुंचा।
सुप्रिय कि भगवान शिव जी के प्रति अत्यंत ध्यानपूर्वक मुद्रा को देखकर दारूक को अत्यंत क्रोध आया तो उसने अपने एक राक्षस से कहा कि उसके इस ध्यान को भंग करें। अत्यंत प्रयत्न करने के बावजूद राक्षस उनका ध्यान भंग करने में असफल रहें। यह देख कर दारुक के क्रोध की सीमा बढ़ गई । उसने क्रोध में आकर सुप्रिय तथा उसके यात्रियों को तुरंत मृत्युदंड देने का आदेश दिया। किंतु सुप्रीय उसके इस आदेश से भयभीत नही हुआ और न ही ध्यान मुद्रा को भंग किया।

इस आदेश से मुक्ति पाने के लिए वह ध्यानपूर्वक भगवान शिव जी की एकाग्र मन से आराधना करने लगा। उसे अपने भक्ति तथा शिव जी की महिमा पर विश्वास था। उसकी प्रार्थना शिवजी ने स्वीकार की तत्पश्चात शिव जी उसी क्षण कारागार में एक ऊंचे स्थान पर चमकते हुए सिहासन पर स्थित होकर ज्योतिर्लिंग के रूप में प्रकट हो गए। शिव जी ने अपने परम भक्त को दर्शन देकर अपना अस्त्र भी प्रदान किया जिससे सुप्रीय ने दारूक राक्षस तथा उसके सहायक का वध करके शिव जी के धाम में चला गया।

Meaning, importance and history of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga
It is believed that Nageshwar, that is, the God of snakes, Vasuki, the god of snakes, keeps sitting around the neck of Lord Shiva by tying a coil. There is great glory of Lord Shiva for those who visit the Jyotirlinga established in this temple. It is said that in this temple one can get rid of all diseases related to poison. This is considered to be the tenth Jyotirlinga of Shri Vishwanath established among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
These temples of Lord Shiva are called Jyotirlingas, because Lord Shiva himself was born at these places after being pleased with the devotional worship of his devotees. It has been said in the articles of religious texts that one can get freedom from sins by seeing this holy Jyotirlinga with devotion. This ancient and prominent temple of Hindus is dedicated only to Lord Shiva. In which Lord Shiva is worshiped with devotion in the form of Aradhana Nageshwar. This Jyotirlinga is also known as Darkavane Nagesh in Rudra Samhita.

Religious Beliefs of Nageshwar Jyotirling:
According to religious beliefs, Lord Shiva is known as the God of serpents. The full meaning of Nageshwar is the Lord of serpents. In mythology, the story of the darshan of this Jyotirlinga has been described as a huge glory. This Jyotirlinga also has various interesting stories which are listened to by all with devotion. It is said that listening to the stories of the Mahatmas with devotion gives freedom from all the sins committed in life.
This temple opens with Aarti at 5:00 am, but for devotees this temple opens at 6:00 am.
Lord Shiva is worshiped with devotion and anointed by many methods by the priests of the temple. Shringar Darshan takes place at 4:00 pm for the devotees who come to the door of Lord Shiva, after that there is a ban on entering the sanctum sanctorum. Here the evening aarti of Lord Shiva is performed by the priests at 7:00 pm and the devotees’ darshan time ends at 9:00 pm. This temple remains open for longer hours on the festivals of Lord Shiva and on special auspicious occasions.

Construction work of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga:-
The construction work of this tenth Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva has been done in a wonderful and beautifying method. This Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva has been established at the lower level of the main sanctum sanctorum of the Nageshwar temple. A big silver snake of Lord Shiva has been installed on top of this Jyotirlinga. Not only this, the statue of Mother Parvati has also been established behind this wonderful Jyotirlinga. The temple of this Jyotirlinga has been built in a very wonderful aesthetic way. It is said that the devotees who want to anoint the Jyotirlinga get the anointing done by wearing white dhoti after requesting the priests there.
Legend of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga
According to religious Puranas, it is said that there was a religious and virtuous Vaishya named Supriya. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. He was such a Shiva lover that he used to worship and meditate on Lord Shiva throughout the day. He used to do his work only by offering it to Lord Shiva. He used to worship Lord Shiva with all his mind, order and words. A demon named Daruk hated his devotional worship of Lord Shiva. He used to constantly try to create disturbances in his worship.

He was looking for an opportunity to create disturbance in Supriya’s worship method, then one day he got a very golden opportunity. When Supriya was going somewhere on his boat, Daruk attacked him. After attacking him, he captured all the passengers in his boat and took them to his capital and imprisoned all the passengers including Supriya.
Being an ardent devotee of Supriya Shiva, he started worshiping and worshiping Lord Shiva continuously even in the prison. He also used to inspire the worship of Lord Shiva to the passengers imprisoned along with him and requested them to worship. In this matter, when he received the news of the Supreme’s devotion to Shiva by Daruk’s servant, he became very angry and went to his prison.
Seeing Supriya’s extremely meditative posture towards Lord Shiva, Daruk got very angry, so he asked one of his demons to disturb his meditation. Despite their utmost efforts, the demons failed to distract them. Seeing this, the limit of Daruk’s anger increased. In a fit of rage, he immediately ordered the death penalty for Supriya and his passengers. But Supriya was not intimidated by his order, nor did he break his meditation posture.

To get rid of this order, he carefully started worshiping Lord Shiva with a concentrated mind. He believed in his devotion and the glory of Lord Shiva. His prayer was accepted by Shivji, after that, at the same moment, Shivji appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga, sitting on a shining throne at a high place in the prison. Shiv ji gave darshan to his supreme devotee and also gave his weapon, so that Supriya killed the demon Daruk and his helper and went to Shiv ji’s abode.
