Close to Rs. 20 crores came on Sunday between the four films released – Malang, Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, Shikara and Jawaani Jaaneman. Of course, Malang was the most popular of them all; despite Shikara managing some attention too. For Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior it was yet another usual weekend with great bumps up all around; while Jawaani Jaaneman hung out there for a bit before giving up. Malang saw increased business over its first two days which translates into Rs. 9.76 crores (Rs 745 lakhs). Before being released on Friday (yesterday), not many would have predicted that this Mohit Suri-directed film would do these kinds of numbers on Saturday and Sunday (today). The total revenue after two weekends? A little under Rs. 26 crore (approximately $4 million).
Tanhaji- The Unsung Warrior may seem like it goes about its days rather uneventfully for a man who has made his mark in so many lives but for this warrior, yesterday was just another good Sunday. With the film raking in Rs. 3.46 crores since Friday when it grossed an additional Rs. 1.15 crores, this proves to be a leap worth celebrating for the movie. In total, Tanjai-The Unsung Warrior earned Rs. 266.88 crores as of now but if tomorrow does prove fruitful, which most likely will happen seeing how the film pulled itself together on Sundays after taking home an additional Rs 5 million (Rs 1,90 crores) last week then we could see that number rise substantially; even reaching the 300 crore mark or more!
On the other hand, Jawaani Jaaneman could have actually done better given the merits of the film. It has reached Rs. 24.50 crores so far after Sunday collections emerged as Rs. 1.67 crores and that is allowing the film to clear some distance from it’s competition . However, had the weekdays during the first week shown stronger hold over the Rs 2 crore mark on each day, then we may see a different outcome now . Nevertheless ,the real victory here is how well this one performs for Saif Ali Khan- who has seen many failures recently -and thus it may be considered a success for him too
