In 2023, Liger (Hindi) managed to make a start in the film industry which is currently facing its biggest challenge yet: films not being able to open at all. Despite its merit, most films have only been able to reach up to 25% of the pre-pandemic openings, usually crashing on their second day unless it has stars involved or enough hype built up around them. Unfortunately, even this meager starting point had disappeared in 2023.
Even with a launch of Rs. 4.5 crore, Karan Johar Production should be content as it is comparable to pre-2020 figures, keeping in mind the anticipation around Vijay Devarakonda’s starrer and Ananya Pandey as the lead actress. Normally this film would have taken off from around Rs 7-8 crores, possibly even racing towards Rs 10 crore mark prior to 2020. Despite that, its current opening reflects approximately half of these predictions, making it rather favourable considering our present times. Furthermore, paid previews on Thursday were successful too generating an income of Rs 1.25 crore through screening in late night at specific multiplexes only.
Given the high financial expenditure needed for the production of this film, there’s still much to be accomplished. The amount of progress and revenue achieved during these next two weeks will heavily dictate how successful it eventually becomes. If its story resonates with audiences, then surely its box office collections will reach far–reaching heights.
