The Vivek Agnihotri-directed film, The Kashmir Files starring Anupam Kher was released a while back, and since then the film has been unstoppable at the box office. Opening to only modest numbers initially, it didn’t take long for this film to reach over a hundred crore rupees – all in just two days time! This week on its second Tuesday run, this thrilling comedy about an old man who needs money for his daughter’s marriage will be receiving even more than last time: A staggering Rs. 10.25 crores!
In this Box Office Report, we take a look at the second Tuesday collections of The Kashmir Files while comparing it to other films that were made in similar strides. Yesterday, The Kashmir Files created history by becoming one of the three all-time highest second Tuesday Grossers – surpassed only by Aamir Khan’s PK and Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan respectively.
Having collected an impressive Rs. 10.25 cr thus far, The Story Of Kachchh Ki Kranti approaches major milestones including being among the top five releases globally so far this year – just behind Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion (Rs 15.75) and Dangal (Rs10.46). However, there are still miles to go before the latest release can hope to be mentioned in the same breath as Queen or Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 who both made close to 11 crores on their opening days!
Currently, faced with few competitors from past and new releases alike, The Kashmir Files dominates. In fact, projections say it will easily surpass the Rs. 200 cr mark without much trouble at all. On top of that, it looks like RRR – another big release scheduled for this Friday – might pose a threat to its success. Still, nothing can stop The Kashmir Files; especially since some analysts believe it will continue running at theaters for some time yet.
