The Kashmir Files, a project by director Vivek Agnihotri, emerged victorious at the box office this past week. Opening to an average response on the first day of release with collections exceeding Rs.3.5 crore, this movie steadily increased its revenue over the next few days for both weekends and weekday showings alike.
On Day 8 now – one week after The Kashmir Records’ debut – it has managed to cross Rs.100 crore off total earnings so far amounting to Rs.19 crore on that particular day alone; thus beating other recent releases such as Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani which managed to go beyond Rs.100 crores 9 days following their debut at theaters across India (a trend which was bested by only one day).
If that wasn’t enough, The Kashmir Files has managed this feat faster than the Vicky Kaushal starrer Uri – The Surgical Strike as well that had collected Rs. 100 cr in 10 days of its release, and the Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots that achieved it 10 days after its release. Interestingly, with The Kashmir Files making it past the Rs. 100 cr mark, Vivek Agnihotri will make his debut in this much coveted club along with Anupam Kher who features as the central protagonist in the film.
Current status shows continued occupancy of cinemas across India due to popular response from viewers; which seems promising for next weekend’s earnings estimates too! If content trend remains consistent then we may see money surpassing a whopping one hundred fifty crores (Rs.) even during second-week runtime alone!
