Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani’s Jug Jugg Jeeyo has performed quite well at the box office, according to early estimates. The film earned approximately Rs. 14.90 to 15.90 crores on its third day, thus taking its opening weekend total to a robust Rs. 37 crores. Evidently, the movie has witnessed a growth of nearly 65 percent from Friday to Sunday, putting it in a promising position to carry forward its momentum through the weekdays.
The COVID-19 pandemic has generally seen films of the multiplex genre exhibit an average trend of a 25% spike on Saturdays and no change on Sundays. However, Jug Jugg Jeeyo has turned this on its head, with a Saturday surge of 37%, and an additional 25% boost on Sunday. What is more heartening is that cities such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Surat have come out in full force to support the movie on Sunday.
The release of Jug Jugg Jeeyo in areas beyond the top 8 metros has seen an expansion in its audience base, and although the word of mouth outside these regions is yet to be known, reports from the more premium centers suggest it has been a favorable response, with its numbers gradually increasing over the weekend. It was indeed a solid opening weekend for the film, making it the biggest opening since the pandemic began; the fifth largest among the recent releases, right behind Sooryavanshi, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Gangubai and Samrat Prithviraj and very close to Bachchan Paandey.
Going by the trend seen thus far, it looks all set to be the fifth biggest blockbuster of the pandemic era in Hindi films, surpassing the cumulative revenues of The Kashmir Files, Sooryavanshi, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Gangubai and 83, as well as the lifetime collections of Bachchan Paandey and Samrat Prithviraj.
