The Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MOCI) Qatar, has issued a notice under consumer protection regulations demanding all jewelers to display the daily prices of gold, precious metals, and workmanship in their outlets.
The prominent gold price display is mandatory. The electronic board can be used with proper arrangement of lights. The headings & descriptions should be in simple understanding words. Both the language English and Arabic can be used for better communication purposes for residents and foreign visitors.
Particulars of Price Display Board
As part of consumer protection law number 4 of 2016, the precious metals price display board must include the following particulars.
- Jeweler shop name.
- Date of the day.
- Name of precious metal (i.e. gold, silver, diamond, etc)
- Unit of measurement like 24 karat for gold.
- Gold rate today in Qatari Riyals and USD
- Weight in grams
Sales Receipt of Jewelry Shop

It is made compulsory for jewelry sellers in Qatar under the law to provide purchase receipts to customers for buying gold jewelry and other precious items. This receipt will be considered a documentary proof of purchase.
The record of jewelry sales with sellers will help him to trace its sold products and provide after-sales service to its customers.
The sales receipt generated by the gold jewelry shopkeeper must have the following details.
- Receipt must be printed
- Each receipt must have a serial number.
- Shop / jeweler name
- Shop or brand logo
- Shop registration number
- Shop Mailing Address
- Seller’s Contact number
- Date of sales
- Name of precious metal like gold
- Indicate gold karat purity 24K, 18K, etc

After Sales Service by Gold Jewelry Shop
Most of the time, the jewelry sellers provide a guarantee of the gold items sold verbally to the customers. This is not acceptable under the provisions of the new law of customer rights protection.
The after-sales service offered by the jeweler must be brought into written format and verbally stated clearly to the customers.
The selling receipt generated by the shopkeeper must mention the following points about the gold jewelry warranty.
- The terms & conditions of the gold jewelry warrantee must be explained in simple words.
- The validity of after-sales service should be part of this warranty.
- The refund policy must be in writing in case of a damaged product.
- The replacement terms are also to be included in the sale receipt.
- Special instructions for handling the jewelry must be stated in the customer’s interest.
Exchange Rate of the day
The seller of precious metals, diamonds, pearls, gold & silver jewelry, must furnish the currency exchange rate of the day to the foreign buyers. On demand, necessary evidence like daily newspaper gazette, and official website of current exchange rate can be provided to the customers to satisfy them. In this way, buyers of gold feel trust and confidence in purchasing precious jewelry, watches, and antique ornaments.
Violation of Gold Price Display

To ensure, that the law of gold price display is properly enforced and all the sellers of gold and precious items adhere with the laid regulations of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MOCI) (previously known as the Ministry of Economy and Commerce) certain arrangements are taken, like:
- The Departments under the Assistant Deputy of Consumer Affairs are formed to spread customer awareness and take necessary measures to enforce customer protection laws.
- Periodic inspection of gold shops. It can be once a week or twice.
- Receiving customer complaints & taking necessary action against responsible.
- Any shop found violating the consumer protection laws shall be closed for a month.
- The penalty in the shape of fines can be charged up to QAR 1 Million.
- The repeated violation can cause more strict actions like closing the outlet for a quarter or more.
- In some cases, the responsible can be sent to jail.
- The cancellation of business registration or license can be ordered.
