In this guide, we will introduce you to some must-try Indian breakfast recipes that will tantalize your taste buds and give you a fresh start to your day.

    Punjabi Chole Bhature

Punjabi Chole Bhature is a popular North Indian dish with spicy and flavorful chickpeas, also known as chole, served with a fluffy and deep-fried bread called bhature.

    Preparation:

    • Heat oil in a pan and put cumin seeds to prepare the chole. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and green chilli and sauté until onions turn translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute. Add chopped tomatoes and all the spices, mix well, and cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy. Add the soaked chickpeas and water as required, and let it cook for 30-40 minutes or until the chickpeas are fully cooked, and the gravy is thickened.
    • For the Bhature, mix all-purpose flour, semolina, baking powder, salt, oil, and water in a bowl to make a soft dough. Knead well and let it rest for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, make small balls from the dough and roll them into a small circle. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the Bhature until they are puffed and golden brown.
    • Serve the hot Punjabi Chole with Bhature, garnished with chopped coriander leaves, sliced onions and a squeeze of lemon juice.

    Pohe ka nashta

Poha or pohe ka nashta is a popular breakfast dish in India, particularly in Maharashtra, made from flattened rice flakes. It is a light and healthy dish that is easy to prepare and often enjoyed with hot tea or coffee.

    Preparation:

    • To prepare the Poha, rinse the flattened rice under running water until it becomes soft. Drain the water and keep it aside.
    • Heat oil in a warm pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions, green chilli and potato. Sauté until the onions turn translucent, and the potatoes are cooked. Add turmeric powder, red chilli and salt, mix well and cook for a minute.
    • Add the rinsed flattened rice (poha) to the pan and mix gently until it is well coated with the spices and vegetables. Cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat until the poha is heated.
    • Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot.

    Homemade Aloo Paratha

Aloo Paratha is a popular North Indian dish with a soft and. It is a favorite among food lovers and is often served as a breakfast or lunch option.

    Preparation:

    • To prepare the stuffing, mash the boiled potatoes and add finely chopped onions, green chilli, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Mix well and set aside.
    • Mix wheat flour, salt, and oil in a bowl for the dough. Add water as required and knead to make a soft and smooth dough. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
    • Divide the dough and the potato stuffing into equal portions. Roll one piece of the dough into a small circle and place the potato stuffing in the centre. Dust some flour and roll it gently into a thick paratha.
    • Heat a flat pan and cook the Aloo Paratha on medium heat. Apply oil or ghee on both sides and cook until golden brown.
    • Serve the hot Aloo Paratha with yoghurt, pickle, or chutney.

    Dalia Upma

    Preparation:

    • To prepare the Dalia Upma, roast the dalia on medium heat until it turns light brown and fragrant. Set aside. In a pan, heat oil and first add mustard, cumin seeds and asafoetida. Add chopped onions, green chilli, and grated ginger when they start to splutter. Sauté until the onions turn translucent. Then add chopped tomatoes and mixed vegetables and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
    • Add roasted dalia to the pan and mix well. Add water and salt to taste; cover the pan with a lid. Let it cook for 10-15 minutes on medium heat or until the dalia is fully cooked and water is absorbed. Once done, turn off the heat and garnish with coriander leaves.
