The longanticipated movie, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai, featuring Salman Khan in the leading role, opened up globally on Thursday, May 13. Despite cinema halls being mostly closed in India due to the COVID-19 second wave, the film was still predicted to draw in considerable crowds, especially in Hyderabad, where it was scheduled to release. Regrettably, Telangana state imposed a 10-day lockdown beginning on May 12, thus stopping the film from being shown. Elsewhere, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai had a theatrical release and was made available to watch on the pay-per-view platform, ZeePlex.
In , Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai had a limited release, limited to just the state of Tripura, in three movie theaters – two in Agartala and one in Dharmanagar. Every theater had eleven screenings a day, the final one ending at 3:00 PM due to the 6:00 PM nighttime curfew in effect in Tripura.
Satadeep Saha, CEO of SSR Cinemas Pvt Ltd which operatesnoted that the weekend occupancy was respectable when contacted. He emphasized that it’s necessary to take into consideration the circumstance the film was released in Tripura. As 80% of the area is in a containment zone, just 20% of the population can move out of their homes. Had this not been the case, many people would have been thrilled to see Salman Khan’s big film in theatres, instead of online. Clearly, the majority of the public would have preferred watching the movie on the big screen.
An industry expert revealed to Bollywood Hungama that Radhe’s first day box office takings were close to Rs. 10,432. Friday saw a considerable rise to nearly Rs. 22,518. Saturday and Sunday’s numbers stayed consistent, with collections hovering around Rs. 13,485. After four days of release, Radhe’s cumulative earnings amount to around Rs. 59,920. These figures, however, are only approximations.
The trade expert continues, “Despite the second wave of Covid-19, fear psychosis over visiting cinemas and easy availability of the film online, it is praiseworthy that the a small but significant number of viewers went to watch Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai in cinemas. The producers didn’t expect any collection from theatres in India. Salman Khan even said it on record. In this regard, the collections are not bad at all.”
Last week, Salman Khan engaged with journalists, announcing that the box office takings of Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai would be the lowest yet for a movie featuring him. He said, “Let viewers be content or disappointed with that. Few cinemas are exhibiting the film in India, and overseas the number of theaters are below average. Consequently, its box office profits will be limited.“
Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai had its collections affected on Monday, 17th May as the weekend concluded, with Agartala entering a ten-day lockdown on the same day. Consequently, the film will now be screened at only one theatre in India – SSR Dharmanagar in Dharmanagar.
