How to Check Game Ping in Windows 10/11?

Instead of checking within the game, this tutorial aims to teach you how to check the ping/latency of your online games—like Fortnite, Dota 2, FFXIV, Overwatch, PUBG, League of Legends, and others—externally in the Windows 10 or Windows 11 interface.

Most contemporary online games have a function allowing you to see the latency between your PC and the game server within the UI. This guide will still be helpful if a game lacks this functionality, though.

How to check game ping in Windows 11/10?

Run the online game you want to check first. Press Alt + Tab once you are in the game (not the login page) and connected to the game server. Then take these actions:

    • Step 1: Either right-click the taskbar and choose “Task Manager” or press “CTRL-ALT-DEL” and choose “Task Manager” to open the Task Manager.
    • Step 2: Select the “Performance” tab.
    • Step 3: Click “Open Resource Monitor” at the bottom of the window.
    • As a result, the “Resource Monitor” window will open. Then, access the “Network” tab.
    • Step 4: The executable processes for the game should be easy to find because their names are frequently similar to the game; find and click the checkbox next to their names under “Processes with Network Activity.” Choose every process that your game may have.
    • Step 5: The “TCP Connection” drop-down menu will display the ping and latency.

If you are playing FFXIV and are unsure how to check ping FFXIV, you can follow these steps and get to know your ping results.

Pings vary between games and apps that have several processes running. You need to make a guess in this situation. Certain processes, for instance, are associated with the login server and often have a lower ping; on the other hand, the processes that have varying pings are usually the ones you are looking for.

Alternative Method to Check Game Ping in Windows 10/11

In addition to checking ping using Task Manager, there is another way that can help you see your ping result, which is to run a ping speed test. It is a simple tool that evaluates latency in addition to your Internet connection upload and download rates like many speed test websites. It illustrates in practice how long a packet takes to travel from your computer to the server and back.

Numerous internet speed tests are available online; either the internet service provider owns them or not. Popular names like MySpeed, FAST, Spectrum, and Ookla’s Speed Test are just a few examples.

With MySpeed, determining the speed of both wired and wireless connections is really easy. Adhere to these instructions:

    • Step 1: Go to https://gospeedcheck.com/ or search for “MySpeed” on Google.
    • Step 2: Click the “Go” button on the homepage to begin the test.
    • Step 3: The screen will display the results of the three key parameters after a short while.

How to fix high ping in games on Windows 10/11?

What to do if you get a high ping result after running a ping speed test? First of all, make sure you have yet to cause the issue yourself before blaming your Internet Service Provider (ISP). A few factors might be the source of your internet connection’s latency spikes, excessive ping, or unexpected slowdowns.

Your computer’s excessive download or upload activity is one of the most frequent, although sometimes disregarded, causes. You may experience busy packet transfers, lag spikes, and high ping when playing online games if any software is using up an extensive amount of your internet bandwidth in the background.

Softwares that could download or upload data automatically without your awareness are listed below:

    • Windows Update
    • Torrent Clients
    • Antivirus Update
    • Download Managers
    • Cloud Backup software
    • Internet Browsers
    • Video players with streaming features or online streaming software

To fix high-ping gaming, these following methods may be helpful:

    1. Inspect your hardware: Verify that the minimum system requirements for the game you are playing are met by your computer. Performance issues, excessive ping times, and latency spikes might be caused by outdated hardware.
    2. Use a wired connection: Compared to wireless connections, wired internet connections are more dependable and robust. If at all feasible, use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer straight to the modem or router.
    3. Shut off any unnecessary programs: Close any open apps to increase gaming speed and lessen the strain on your computer’s resources when playing games.
    4. Turn off updates and downloads in the background: To avoid taking up your bandwidth and creating slowness spikes, turn off background apps’ automatic updates and downloads.

    Conclusion

Your gaming experience may be further optimized and latency spikes, high ping, and other performance issues can be reduced by using our article on how to check game ping in Windows 10/11.
