On Monday, Housefull 4 delighted families at the nearly 3900 theaters it screened at. This wasn’t a surprise since it was crafted to appeal to viewers of all ages between 6-60. Though some criticism emerged post release, this had minimal effect on the enthusiastic response it has received.
In the past, there have been two contrasting outcomes for films in regards to their performance on major holidays: those that have suffered huge losses due to bad reviews [Zero], and those that remain largely unaffected [Race 3]. Housefull 4 luckily belonged to the latter group; its box office collection of Rs. 34.56 crores on its release day remained unaffected despite the intense polarization of views, mainly from social media. This also proved to be a record-breaking result for the movie.
With a current box office total of Rs. 87.78 crores after only four days in theaters, it is clear that Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios production has made a positive start. However, today’s partial holiday ‘bhai dooj’ provides the perfect opportunity for family audiences to make their presence felt at cinemas, thereby giving the Akshay Kumar led affair a boost towards its goal of Rs. 100 crores, followed closely by the much-coveted Rs. 150 crores mark in due course.
