जब भी लोग उनकी मूर्ति को अपने घर में लगाते हैं, तो सभी के मन में यह सवाल आता है कि सूंड किस तरफ होनी चाहिए, क्योंकि उनकी मूर्ति सही दिशा में होने के कारण भगवान रास्ते में आने वाली हर बाधा को दूर कर देते हैं। ऐसा माना जाता है कि सीधी सूंड वाले भगवान गणेश दुर्लभ हैं। भगवान गणेश को वक्रतुंडा कहा जाता है क्योंकि उनकी सूंड एक तरफ झुकी होती है। भगवान गणेश का वक्रतुंड रूप भी दो प्रकार का होता है। कुछ मूर्तियों में, गणेश की सूंड बाईं ओर और कुछ में दाईं ओर मुड़ी हुई है। गणपति जी की बायीं सूंड में चंद्रमा का प्रभाव और दाहिनी ओर सूर्य का प्रभाव माना जाता है। वहीं वास्तु के अनुसार दिशा उनकी मूर्ति को रखने के लिए निर्धारित होती है। आइए इसके बारे में विस्तार से जानते हैं–
दाहिनी सूंड गणेश
वास्तु के अनुसार, ऐसा माना जाता है कि दाईं ओर घूमती सूंड वाले गणेश बहुत जिद्दी होते हैं। कहा जाता है कि घर और ऑफिस में ऐसी तस्वीर न ही लगाएं तो बेहतर है। अगर किसी कारणवश इनकी स्थापना करनी पड़ती है तो कई धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों का पालन करना पड़ता है, इसलिए ऐसी मूर्तियों को मंदिरों में स्थापित कर उनकी पूजा की जाती है। ऐसे गणेश जी की उपासना विघ्नों के नाश, शत्रुओं की पराजय, विजय प्राप्ति, उग्र और शक्ति प्रदर्शन के लिए फलदायी मानी जाती है।
बायां सूंड गणेश
सिंहासन पर विराजमान गणेशजी की सूंड बाईं ओर मुड़ी हुई है, उन्हें पूजा घर में रखना चाहिए। इनकी पूजा से घर में सुख, शांति और समृद्धि आती है। वास्तु के अनुसार ईनको रखने के लिए मंदिर का ईशान कोण सही है। इस मूर्ति की स्थापना के बाद स्थायी कार्यों के लिए इसकी पूजा की जाती है। जैसे शिक्षा, धन प्राप्ति, व्यवसाय, प्रगति, संतान सुख, विवाह, सृजन कार्य और पारिवारिक सुख। घर के मुख्य द्वार पर गणेश जी की मूर्ति या तस्वीर लगाना भी शुभ होता है।
सीधी सूंड वाले गणेश
कहा जाता है कि सीधी सूंड वाली मूर्ति की पूजा रिद्धि–सिद्धि, कुंडलिनी जागरण, मोक्ष, समाधि आदि के लिए सर्वोत्तम मानी जाती है।
