The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Gangubai Kathiawadi released over a week ago, and since then Alia Bhatt starring film has been taking in vast amounts from the box office. At first it did well but as time went on its popularity only grew more and bigger until now it has managed to make over Rs. 100 crores (millions).
When compared to Alia Bhatt’s previous release, the actress’s latest release has grossed Rs. 105.26 crores since its release date; making it her fifth successful film out of ten released so far. When looking at being the fastest ever for a Bollywood movie in terms of reaching Rs. 100 crores after only eight days, it comes in as her second fastest; with Gully Boy being her first one to reach this amount within eight days of its release! Other films on Alia’s list are Raazi (Rs. 102.41 crores) and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniyaa (Rs. 101 crore), both within seventeen days – and two States (Rs. 102 Crore).
Currently, Gangubai Kathiawadi still continues to run in theatres with audiences patronizing the film over new releases. Once trends settle, it is predicted that the business of Gangubai Kathiawadi will grow even more from here on out. All we can do now is wait and see if the film manages to surpass Rs. 120 cr- for only then would we know for sure what fate has decreed for our favourite story-telling tradition.
